Re: My Dad passed away this morning

My condolences Rick.
Although its not the easiest thing to do, at times like this its often good to reflect on how 'full' the glass may be.
He made it through WW11 to come back, raise a family and live to a very ripe and great old age of 88...that is something nearly miraculous in itself.
He clearly has had a positive impact on life and people...and all of that is saying something.
Hang in there, and again my condolences.

Sorry to hear that. This is one of the hardest losses to take. Father and sons have that special bond. Took me a good long time to work through losing mine and still hard if I think about it too much. My deepest condolences to you and your family for your loss.

Re: My Dad passed away this morning

Rick, Sorry and My Condolenses seem so shallow, superficial, and, well, lame, at this time. But they do come from the bottom of our hearts. If we were closer we could give you a shoulder to lean on, but we can only reach out in the best way we know how.

You are in our thoughts and prayers, and if there is anything we can do to help ease the pain of losing a parent, say the word. In the past I have lost a great MIL, FIL, and Dad. You will never stop missing them, but you will always have the memories. Cherish the good memories and forget the bad. My dad passed away 10 1/2 years ago and there are still times I expect to see him come barrelling through the door laughing like a fool because of some trick or joke he played on someone.

One thing we can do, and I have done already and will continue to do, is to pray that God will grant you the peace and strength to get through this difficult time. May God's grace be with you, Rick.

Re: My Dad passed away this morning

I always struggle to balance condolences for such a huge loss, but also attaboys for the great life that was lived. aspeck always does a good job with this. I have to say it is hard for me to be sad when I hear of such a great, full and long life that was lived, and I hope that Rick can be comforted knowing that we all owe your dad a deep debt of gratitude and that he will be remembered by so many and for so many reasons. Way to go Earle!! You da man!

My condolences my man. Nothing beats these old war vets. I love them all to pieces. My dad was a WW2 vet. I bet he was a fine man and I'm sure you will miss him. At least now he's with his old war buddies swapping stories. May peace be with you.

88 Years is a full life. He left footprints on this planet in his time that are eternal.

I do hope that he didn't, like my Dad, spend the last few years wishing it was over and fighting the Docs who wouldn't just let him die.

May he rest in honored peace.

Damn man... That's a kick in the gut. Happened to me about 10 years ago. As I get older I think of all the things he did for me. He was a good father and friend.

Celebrate his life don`t mourn. Have a beer for me :)

Re: My Dad passed away this morning

Thank you so much for all that have posted, especially those that shared their special moments with me. Things are a little hectic right now; but God bless him, he had pre-arranged all of his funeral. As a retired military, he will be interred at the Bay Pines Veterans Cemetery in St Petersburg, Florida and buried with a military honor guard ceremony.
