Went to do a spot of fishing with the family today and got towed home by the coast guard. You just havent lived, till you've been towed home at least once in your life {thats what I told my kids anyway}. I have a 135 2L mercury[at least I think its 2L the bore is 3 1/8]mid 80s I think. I pulled off the heads and found a blow out in 1 cylinder.I am thinking about doing a full rebuild myself although I havent done anything this big before I do muck around a bit fixing things. Can anyone tell my roughly how long this might take and how much it might cost, or if I am just being silly to think about it.

when you say blow out in #1, are you just talking about the gasket. or a hole in the piston. better explaination, maybe some pics.

Re: my engine died today

This is not actually what killed the engine, this is just what I found when I took the heads off. Had a compession test done a few weeks ago and showed 90 in #1 cylinder. We were running along and heard a strange grinding sound in the motor and it lost power and stopped. Couldn't get it started again.
