My Evinrude has sluggish response

It's a 1990 XP 200. Cylinders arecomp testing at 89+/- 1lb on all six.
Replaced plugs
Has a recent power pack
Takes a while to get on a plane and will get to 5400rpm's eventually.

Could this be a timing issue and can this V-6 be timed with a standard timing light. What about the dwell adjustment turn rod next to the flywheel?

Where would a guy find a service manual for this old of a unit?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Doug.

Good motor. At only 5400 as the top rpm I wouldn't expect to have a great holeshot. However it should be OK if the motor is running on all 6 all the time. If the motor has been sitting for more than a month without treated fuel in the carbs (not just in the tank) they may need a bath.

At 89 psi your below the typical minimum of 100psi.What boat/weight and prop are running and speed at max rpm.

Re: My Evinrude has sluggish response

I purchased a service manual and will rebuild the carbs. The boat had been running great earlier this year ...65mph, 6200 rpm's?, then seemed like overnight lost power. The SS prop has probably been rebuilt as I can't see any pitch markings on it... I'll have to determine this, but I don't think its the issue since the boat ran great before. That's why timing and carbs come into question. Thanks for your help and responses and I'll let you know the outcome. Doug

Did you look under the prop nut for markings?Used to run 6,200 now 5400.
I think I would look for a cylinder not firing.Timing doesn't seem likely.
Check plug color. You might carefully feel for a plug that isn't as hot as the rest.
