My First Boat Project

Hi everyone. First let me say, thanks for everyone's help with the questions I had. Here is my boat. I had it for about 2 months and still don't know exactly what model it is. The registration said it's a 12 ft 1968 Sears Gamefisher however when I measured it, it's actually 13 1/2 ft. So who knows what it is really. All that I know is that it's mine and I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out. Here are the pictures of what I did to it. Since I could only add 5 pics at a time I'll reply to this thread with the rest. Hope you like it.

Looks good! I have a jon boat I am restoring and I am almost ready for paint. I have been going back and forth on colors. After seeing this I think I am going with the same colors. What kind of paint did you use?

I was looking for something cheap and easy so I went with Rustoleum oil based paint. The primer I used was Rustoleum primer for aluminum. You have to use that first or the paint won't stick to the aluminum. Eventually I might repaint it with marine paint but that won't be for a couple of years. I know some people say the rustoleum won't work but I'm not keeping it in the water and so far its held up.

More pictures. The second color I added was an almond color because it matches my seats. Then I rolled in a bed liner to seal the bottom of the boat and reduce noise.

More pictures. I added a bed liner and then primed the inside of the boat and the seats.

More pictures. After priming the inside and seats I added 2 coats of the almond color. I had some extra blue left over so I added highlights to certain areas.

More pictures. After all the paint was dry I added carpet to the bottom of the boat.

More pictures. I had a little trouble cutting the one edge but it's straight now. Also, putting carpet in the bow was a pain in the butt! After laying it on the floor I has some left over and added it to the seats.

That's a real nice job you did on that tinny!!!

Just one question, did you check your boat for leaks before painting and applying the bed liner?

Final set of pictures. This is with the new seats I got off of ebay. I only paid $34 for both seat and that included shipping. I figured a total cost of only $17 a seat was a good deal. I hope everyone likes what I did. I think it came out pretty good looking and proud of the job.

@jigngrub Yea, I did. I actually have pictures of me doing that but didn't feel like posting them. That was the first thing I did before I even bought the paint or bed liner.
