I am new to all of this so any suggestions would be wonderful. I am a first time boat owner. I just bought a 2007 ( hold over ) 200H four winns with the 5.0 220hp Volvo Penta. paid $23500.....

NOW , is there something i should look for in the first 20-50 hours? how often should I bring it in to be serviced and all that jazz. Any sounds i should listen for? leaks? loose bolts? WHATEVER....

I just don't want to take the family out and say. WTF was that??

I have been out with frinds and family on their boats but never owned one out right and let along Brand NEW one.

Re: My First Boat

Welcome to iBoats! Read the VP manual very closely and follow the recommended Break-In section. My 5.7L VP recommends a 20-hr break-in period and yours is probably similar. The first recommended dealer-inspection is after 20 hrs and again after 50 hrs. If you want your boat and motor to last, follow their recommendations, unless you are a qualified marine mechanic and are comfortable doing that stuff yourself. Also, hook it up to some muffs and fire-up the motor in your driveway to make sure the darn things starts. Listen for anything strange and watch the guages. Like I said before, read the VP manual for more info. One last thing, the price you paid is pretty high for a 2-yr-old "new" 200H. In contrast, my 2008 H220 (with a 5.7L power plant) only cost $29K plus tax. Did you do some research and see what they are going for? Just curious.

Where are you located? Send pics of your new toy!!!

Re: My First Boat

I live up in Vermont. I did some research on them around here. they had a used one in NY same year and such they wanted 25000 with 80 hours on it. another dealer had a 2008 for sticker of 42k and they would let it go to me for 33k so I went with the 2007 at 23500. so around here that was a pretty good deal I thought.

I will make sure i read over EVERYTHING that they give me.

as for pics i will get some up soon. but I see yours and it looks just like it. well 2 feet shorter and 1 axl for the trialer, black and same graphics.

We still like pictures, even if it looks very similar to mine! Have you given any thought as to firing it up with muffs in your driveway? I did mine over the weekend and it was as easy as it sounds, however, you can't really rev it up.

Re: My First Boat

jacknbella, that is a very, very sweet ride.

As for the break in period, I agree that is very important to follow. I'm not sure if we followed the rules exactly for the first few weeks, but the little 3.0L Mercruiser seems to get better with age.
