Re: My first real boat!

My inlaw used to have Doel fins on all his OBs, to plane faster.
I installed some in my 25HP, but that was to control the bow rise since planing was a nightmare on that boat (runabout 10').

So you strongly suggest me not to install Doel fins?

Thanks for the info Rrhodes, it makes perfect sense.

I strongly suggest you do not install them. If you have some sort of performance issue, post about it on here and let the experts tell you what to change about your set up.

LOL :D

You know, there's a saying around here "Man's happiest days in life are: the day you buy your boat...and the day you sell it" ;)

Thanks mate!

Okey dokey Ezmobee, I won't install them. Thanks:).

The only time I have been happy about selling a boat is when the money is going into buying a new boat. :)

Re: My first real boat!

...It looks like your motor is mounted a little low. The cavitation plate is usually even with the bottom of the transom and then adjusted depending on performance...
Called the Yamaha dealership mechanic who installed it. Had him come over this evening. Told him about the motor height, and that the manual states it should be even with the bottom of the transom (as you correctly stated Rrhodes)...

He insisted it was ok...
I insisted on adjusting the motor height...
He insisted even more that it was ok...

He ended up saying "test it on the water, I assure you it will work fine. If you have any problems, call me, and if needed, I'll adjust the height"

I measured the difference again today: motor's cavitation plate sits exactly 1" below the bottom of the transom.

Should I:
1) test it as it is now?
2) adventure and adjust the motor height myself?
3) If I decide on doing this myself, how do I accomplish it? (motor weighs 375 lbs)

Thanks in advance:)

I would try it and see what you think... it's ultimately your decision..
if it were me I'd listen to the guy who does it for a living.. 1 inch isn't that much on a boat that size..:)

It may be that the hull design works well at that setting and the mechanic knows that. Give it a shot, if something stands out call him back and give him the what for!

Lovely boat, seems the glastrons are getting popular, heck, I just bought one (GT205) and am waiting patiently for the wife to get ready so I can go get it!

Re: My first real boat!

Thanks Lil Fishy:)

I went with Glastron for various reason, but the two most important were:
1) Glastron's reputation is solid (In the marina I'll have my boat, I've seen Glastrons from the 60's still in working condition:eek:)
2) The price was right.

Now, go help her get ready and go get your GT205:D:D

Congrats on your new boat and enjoy mate!

Cheers!

Re: My first real boat!

Thanks Briguy and Seavue:)

My kids can't wait, but it's only more week they'll have to wait!

That's the beauty of boating, you can enjoy with the whole family.

I got a call from the Marine authorities today "Sir, your boat license is ready" :D:D

On monday I just have to sign one more form and the boat is good to go!

Cheers!

Yeah same reason for me, and they seem to be more sensibly built as well, with a lot of functionality built into them. We looked at the dorals, and they seem to have been built with appearance over function...and they were many more dollars.

Made our maiden voyage today...hope you get yours soon! :D

Nico if you decide that you should raise the outboard it is easy to do with the boat on the trailer. Do a thread search on this site and you'll find lots of info.

Enjoy!
