So, i took my boat for its first ride of the year to check things out after maintenance with my buddy Steeve.
We went to Pitt Lake, my favorite spot. We were coming back at the end of the afternoon, on Pitt River, and i was following this guy, about 800m away. Now there is a wider spot were a marina sits to the left, a small island almost in the middle, and a very narrow channel, right of the island. The guy kept right, following the narrow channel. I went " hey isn't there sand bars right around here, right before this island?" and Steeve answered "yeah i think so, a guy got stuck here last year". I said that the guy must know this way better than us but i decided to hit hard left to get back to the main channel.
And boom, we hit the @#$%&&^$#@ sand bar! I cut to neutral, told Steeve to go up front to lift the back of the boat as much as possible and was able to wiggle my way outa there. We are going towards the main channel and Steeve went " there's a guy following us!" And boom HE hits the @#$^^%$# sand bar! But his boat is bit heavier so he is STUCK. We turned around and "tiptoed" as close to his boat as i dared and Steeve threw my anchor line to him. But my prop is throwing all kinds of mud and the current is a wee bit trickiy so i'm getting a bit nervous there. it took a good 15 min to get him out of there but i felt good when we were done. I mean hey, we help a fellow boater!
Also, here is a picture of the spot we found for beaching.
