Re: my first starcraft 160 super sport

I was just reading a couple of other forums and i believe everyone is talking about epoxy resin? If so what should I apply with?

I just used cheap dollar store paint brushes since I'm throwing them away anyways. The paint thinner to clean them will be worth more than the brush. The brushes aren't the black polyester kind that the leaves behind strands but the natural bristle looking brushes. $1.50 or something.

I then use a plastic bondo spreader...again like a buck or two if you want it to be really smooth. Once the epoxy sets on the plastic give it a bend and the epoxy pops right off.

The epoxy is fantastic stuff. It seals like nobodys business and is classified as an adhesive. Anything coated in that stuff is going to around a long time. If you're pi**ed at anyone I'm sure the thickened epoxy with cabosil would fasten windshield wipers down and fill the locks just great :)

Thanks for the info and the laughs guys. I'm moving along ssssoooooooooooooo slow that i haven't and won't be starting the boat for a couple weeks due to being broke (had to pay all the bills at once) , i took a vacation just to work on it and hopefully finish the boat within the next 4 weeks. But i'll still be happy with my original plan for july 1st

Ouch tough break on the elbow. And laquer thinner does a good job cleaning epoxy and isn't that expensive. I tend to do lots of little jobs and let it cure, etc. Couldn't be going through brushes each time even though I do use the 1.50 natural bristle ones.

Look after that wing dude. The pain meds might get you working for 18 hours at a time on the boat.

Well everyone I'm happy to report my son and I got the hull painted despite the broken wing. I also have pics of the paints I used but I don't know if I can put them here. It's a big relief to have this part done. Before i flipped the boat i filled with water above the seams and found one rivet leak (broke off). Easy fix.

It's not a perfect job but I'm satisfied with it. Now I have to refinish the bunk hardware and install the bunks and she'll be back on the trailer until we have that first voyage!

That paint job is looking great:)

What kind did you use? It's fine to post photos of what you're using don't worry about that. It's looking like a brand new Starcraft with those logos on there!

the logos are actually the ones that were on the boat. it was black but it's on black paint so i carefully took a roller and a light touch to the letters

Re: my first starcraft 160 super sport

Thanks everyone. Ok, now for the question, 1/2 in or 3/4 for the floor? I took out 1/2 and have the original for template. Wouldn't there be a slight difference in the cut since it's on an angle where it meets the hull? I decided to get ply instead of marine and epoxy them.
