My dad called me up on and said lets go fishing, well I am always looking for an excuse to get my boat out on the water, so I am anxiously awaiting. Now I have been launching this boat by myself for quite sometime, and I have a procedure down that I always do right down to leaving the courtesy dock. Well since my dad and younger sister decided to go with me I said why not just let my Dad help, it will make things easier on me. Well I drive the truck and everything launches beautifully. Dad comes back to the dock and to pick me up. Now I always give myself a push off of the dock with one foot on the boat one on the dock it swings the bow around, and I can just pull straight out of the dock without reversing. Not remembering that my Dad was driving my boat, I go through the same procedure and right as I give the push Dad puts the boat in reverse. Yep you guessed I went in fully clothed. I was hanging by the bow rope and my Dad and sister are laughing so hard they can't think. I have never ever cursed at my father before, but I am hanging off of the bow of my own boat, and yelling at to turn the motor off in not so nice of a way. Luckily my wallet dried out and for some reason lucky reason my cell phone didn't get hurt. I did bang my arm up pretty good though and strained a shoulder muscle, no serious damage. From this point forward I am the Captain of my boat and nobody else drives.

Ouch! Glad you were not hurt to badly. It's sometimes hard to adjust to more people being around when launching etc.

We don't have a dock at the ramp that I use most often, so you have to beach the boat while you park your truck. I usually put one knee on the bow, and push off with the other foot/leg. About two trips ago, I did this as usual except that my father was with me and moving around in the boat. When I went to push off he moved at that moment and I slipped and ended up with the front running light in my groin....I saw lights but they were not from the running light.

Sounds like Dad finally got even for all the stuff you did growing up. It's a shame that you were in the drink or you would have seen the slight grin that crossed his face once he knew you were all right.

Re: My First

Don't worry about the screen name, I promise I am that boater that always has that Craftsman tool set in the boat two extra drain plugs, a jumper pack and always have extra gas and a Tow rope. I never ever go looking for trouble and I always make a 100% attempt to back away from trouble when it arises. Rottenray let me know if you are ever on the lake, and need some help, but you won't laugh at my tub of a boat if you know what is good for ya ;)

Re: My First

I was retreiving my boat one day and got it up on the trailer. I realized I had left my tackle box in the bow of the boat so I stood up on the trailer tounge to grab it and my foot slipped. I can down hard with my chest hitting the trolling motor blades. I wasn't permanently injured but it made for a serious bruise.
