So I have an uncle (dad's brother) with whom I have a lot in common. We both like to camp and fish etc. and we're both really big on family. He was once a very avid duck hunter, even guiding some on the side, but he lost interest five or six years ago and stuck his duck boat in the back yard where it sat languishing until last Saturday (more on that in a moment). Two years ago he asked me if I was ready to start duck hunting with him (I had never been). After my resounding yes he ordered a brand new seventeen foot Excel (locally made welded bad*** john boat), and every time we were in the duck woods I'd ask him what he would take for his old duck boat, a fifteen by sixty Polarkraft with 25 horse electric start Merc. His response was always that I'd have to come see what it needed and then decide what I thought it was worth.
Well, last July at the family reunion he told me to "come get that boat and use it", so last Saturday I picked it up. The trailer needed a new hub and wheel and two sets of lug nuts but otherwise appears to be good to go. I cleaned up the wiring (new connections, better ground), and he says a couple of the rivets need to be bucked, so I'll get to that soon. Registration needs to be renewed, which is all of twelve bucks for a three year period in Arkansas. It's been sitting up a long time so I won't even fire up the motor until it has a new impeller, and the prop is toast. Think that's it. Shouldn't take me but a couple of weeks to have her back in fighting shape. Can't wait. There's a bucket of yo-yos in the garage that haven't been hung in a long time. The admiral reminded me the count is now six. Here are a few pics.
