15gals is a good start. At first you'll use more resin than you need too. Most beginners do!!!! With Poly resin Less is Best!!! You only need to use enuf to wet out the CSM Or Fabric to make it go Clear. Any more than that is a waste. After several layups you'll start to get the hang of it and you'll use less resin. You'll be surprised how much Peanut Butter you'll need and that takes resin to. I'd guess about 3 gallons of resin will be used for your peanut butter.;)

Ok just found poly resin in bulk local $2 a LB no shipping or hazmat fees. I got 15gal ordered. I haven't done anything on the boat in the last 2weeks. We're gonna start back on it this evening by ripping out a portion of the back deck and get the transom removed and have it ready by Monday so we can start the glass work.

Interplastics Corp. is where I'm getting it and I believe they make resin for National Composite Materials. It is the right stuff. I drive a simi truck locally and I have my hazmat endorsement and we go to a lot of chemical & plastics company's here and I have been asking about poly resin for 3 weeks now and finally got lucky.

ohh and imho be sure to pre coat both sides with thinned resin and edges real good to keep down water penetration into wood .

You HAVE to use CSM whenever you use Polyester resin. If you don't it WILL crack and allow water penetration. Recommend one Layer of CSM On the underside of the deck boards and 2 layers on Top.. Pay CLOSE attention to the edges. They're the most susceptible to water penetration if not sealed really well.
