My looper is cursed...

No matter what I do, or how much $ I spend, my looper just fails to run right.

It was only one week ago I tank tested it and all was fine. I put in on Sat. and it runs like crap. Come to find out one of my less than a year old coils had a major crack in it.

Will it ever end?

Why can I fix everyone else's motors in my family but not my own?

Are the CDI coils crap? I replaced them due to bad rep on the OMC ones. Should I go with BRP or Sierra?

CDI has an excellent reputation. If it was one of their's and it cracked in less than a year, give them a call. Just ask if that's happened before and if so is there a better coil. I'd almost bet they'll replace the coil. I'm not aware of a better one. I would bet that if a better one existed they'd be selling it. They're really nice folks.

Dhadly

I also have their PP and timer base and those have been ok. Must just be a fluke with the coil.

Any idea why I can't get the idle down (in forward) below 1k? I've tried everything in the book ie setting the timing etc. and can't get it lower.

What kind of boat is it? Is the motor mounted fairly high? IE -- when at rest in the water, how high up the mid section is the waterline?

It's on a Sunbird 20' cuddy. The t&t is 1/2 submerged if that tells you anything.

That's about normal. How did you adjust the idle timing?
