I have a 1970 14ft carefree with a 1970 33hp ski twin.the engine that you have is a late 1950s golden jubilee.may have been a replacement engine because the jubilee was an anniversary year engine.the 33 moves the boat comfortably with 2 adults 1 teenager and 1 being pulled on a tube,but a 40hp would definitely be better.

I have to agree with Capt Mark,
My Carefree is a 70, and the dataplate says she is rated for a 35HP motor. However, she has had a 1969 Johnson 55hp on her since my uncle bought it new in Oneonta. Great ske/tube boat. Very contollable, even at full throttle. GPS Says 36mph with just me, and the gas tank.
I did change the steering from cable and drum to cable-rod helm(teleflex). Smooth and effective, though not "pure" MFG.

I bought my MFG Carefree from the original owner in Saratoga Springs,NY.It is Tangerine and white.just converted steering from drum and cable to teleflex.Ordering new seats this winter,only because they were showing their age.the boat was boat house kept its whole life,and sits on its 1976 gator trailer.

nockimixon only has a max 20 hp limit.Beltzville lake off 209 near the poconos is where a tube with my carefree.

Yes it is a wood core boat.be aware around where the seats are fastened to the deck.great place for soft spots,due to the floor does not dry well between the seats and gunwales.

Absolutely...I drilled a hole throught the front of the seat mount, so the water would drain better...
CaptMark, what year is your boat? I'm too lazy to look up the color in the mags...
