I have a 92 Mariner Magnum III 150. This past weekend I throttled back sharply while pulling a tube and the motor stalled. When I went to restart the motor was locked tight. I could not turn the motor over by hand forward. I was able to turn the motor over by hand in reverse and it moved. I then turned it forward and it moved freely and even restarted. I'm guessing I did some damage somewhere. Is this normal or should I be looking for something? I was going to do a compression check to see if I bent a rod. I did notice a slight water leak out of one of the cylinder heads but no water in any of the cylinders.

I seem to remember someone saying a long time ago that if you slipped a boat off the trailer too fast, or had a following wave hit the motor, water could come in the vents below the powerhead and flood the cylinders. Don't quote me on this. But what you did was get hit with a follow wave I'm sure and if it flooded one cyl. it could hydrolock the engine. Water won't compress. Turning it backwards maybe pushed the water out and it started again. See what someone of knowledge says......................Jerry

Sounds likely, but check the gearlube for grins and giggles. ;)

Ok I pulled the drain plug on the lower unit. Full of metal shavings. Probably got out at lease a teaspoon of metal. Pulled the lowr unit off and it turns really stiff and grinding. Guess we found the problem.

Ok here's my next question. In the lower unit there is a bearing Cage?? for the prop shaft and there are two grease zerks inside the lower unit housing. Do I grease those as part of regular maintenance?
