I went ahead and tried the muriatic acid on my hull today. The results were a 7 on a 10 scale. With a bit of scrubbing the brown waterline stain came off nicely. The marine growth was a bit tougher.
Let me back up a bit. I tried it in a pump sprayer at about 60% strength. In hindsight I wouldn't have watered it down at all. Went to the local 25 cent spray wash. This isn't something you want to do in your driveway. Wet down the hull and the trailer real good. Then sprayed the hull with the acid. Let it sit for about 5. At first I tried just hitting it with the pressure. That was not working very well. Then I turned on the bubble brush and scrubbed. The results were much better. Scumline came off easy...barnacles a bit harder. Still the attachment points for the marine growth won't budge.
2 things I would do differently next time. I would not dilute and I would not wet the hull first. Just put it on full strength and let it sit.
I meant to do a before and after pic but forgot the camera at home.
