Re: My new 16' SS

Thanks for the welcome.

So these go back together twice as easy as they come apart right guys?

Right??

Transom is on the list as well. Gotta get a come-a-long for that to get the motor off.

BTW it is titled as a 1977.
Nothing is hard on these boats...just time consuming ..getting it just the way you want it...
but that is where the fun comes in:D
It can get a little expensive if the outboard is really shot...

grab the GPS while she'll let you but still get a compass too. i assume you fish Grt Lakes. you want a failure proof way to find your way home. this might be a great time to get yourself a nice new sonar that has GPS built in and justify it as "safety" equipment.....

You know our motto. If it ain't broke restore it!

Here we go again. A guy buys a perfectly good Starcraft and minutes after getting it home reduces it to component parts. LMAO that's funny.

Have fun.

If you still have the motor hanging on the back, you might think about seeing if it runs while your waiting for parts or whatever. That eliminates the burning question - Does this thing run? It might not run well but the fact that it does run is a good feeling.

Yea I coulda ran it as it was but just figured might as well make it nice. That front floor panel was bad and the foam was soaked. Dunno how much float the foam had left in it. Looking for noodles now.

Got the vinyl and glue off the interior today. Wondering what the disadvantages are to leaving it bare over painting. Can I rattle can the interior? With what? Just want white or grey if I have to paint the cabin.

Got more questions if anyone has advice...

Wanting to save $ right now so thinking about leaving the floor painted instead of vinyl/carpet. Would perfer vinyl but it is expensive.
Was thinking about sand in the paint to give grip but like bare feet on the boat so dunno about that.

Anyone used this stuff:

Also how are Wise seats? Seen reviews saying they are flimsy. These sure are cheap though:

Ordering my gluvit and epoxy soon. Gonna start cutting new floor as well.

Re: My new 16' SS

good plan. you probably saw the thread about the guys flipping their boat on grt lakes......it don't take much.

will you be using boat in salt water? how hot is it where you are? bare alum gets pretty hot. any decent enamel will work (assuming you don;t want to get into the $ of marine topside paint) but you should clean the aluminum all bright n shiny right beforehand and then promptly hit it with a thin coat of self-etching primer.

that rubber stuff sounds cool if a bit pricey. looks easier than putting the rubber mulch into a blender or coffee grinder:eek:, and way cheaper than Durabak, about same cost as tuffcoat ($23 for rubber + $50 for gallon vs tuffcoat at $80-85/gal)

Congrats on the purchase of your 16SS. We love ours...looks like your well into the restoration phase. I used the bird gravel with several layers of marine paint for application over wood and found it quite grippy, but hard to clean.

Re: My new 16' SS

I picked up some inexpensive boat carpet for mine (that I'm putting in this weekend) at a fabric/uphostery store down the road. Think I paid about $60 for. Wise seats are fairly cheaply made but...mine had wise seats in it that I'm going to reuse but look on ebay first, saw some really good prices there. sorry about the pile in the driveway, but hey, it gets better from here:)
