Re: My new boat nightmare.....

Yay! That's a very good resolution. I said in the beginning that a replacement boat was not in the cards and I'm glad that you didn't hold out for an unrealistic result--and that you didn't need to hire one of my brothers in law.

And now you get free, professional winterization and storage! Don't have to worry about a grizzly gnawing on the outdrive or a moose butting the side or other such hazards as you have up there.

Have fun!

ditto......lol....rico.......that is one nice freekin boat.

This boat was not a factory second and none of the boats in that shipment were.
.

Just got a reply from Starcraft.
They have verified that the boat was sold to the dealer as a disounted unit due to the paint flaw and any other exterior flaws.

im a little confused about this.......
this was the whole heart of the issue imho

but no matter......i am not the one that need to be satisfied.....you are.

congrats ricohman.......that is one nice boat......you get to use it right away.....and they fix it at there shipping dime this winter.......win/win.

just dont let them make you drive too far !!!!!

toon town has lots of boat dealerships that something can be worked out with or even biggar has ( i think) as well.

your season is short.......so get out there and enjoy your new boat

p.s did you know that that boat is made of metal and it will cut you to shreds if you look at it wrong? :D (glasser and tinny)

I'm glad you reached an amicable resolution! I'm also glad you didn't listen to some of our advice!? Having a cool head when dealing with these things definitely has it's advantages and as long as you feel "whole" then I know the rest of us mob types can endorse that!!!

Cheers to a long and dry boating/fishing season, that is certainly a great looking boat to do it in!

And here we thought the dealer was on the hook for this mess.

Regardless, congratulations for the successful resolution (and evidence that nice guys don't always finish last).

I cannot believe how similar that boat is to my friend's 1991 Islander. I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it design-wise!

I was also confused about the blem/2nd/flaw thing. But the dealer assured me this was not the case. And Starcraft corroborated that statement. I believe the confusion about the warranty came from the fact that the boats were all bought at once and were the last of the line (Islanders). Some had been sitting around and some had no engines, and the staff at Starcraft may have made a mistake in the initial statement. Regardless of that, all the boats bought in that lot are new and have warranty. I believe they are also going to unwrap all of them to make certain this does not happen again.
It is supposed to start snowing again tomorrow so the outfitting of the boat wil have to wait a few days. But hopefullly I can get the maiden voyage in within a week.
I thank all for the responses and advice. I know some of you wanted a bit more drama but I don't think it will be happening in this thread. I still believe Port Colborne Marine is a solid dealer and Starcraft make a great product. So my choice to buy this particular boat at this particular dealer was a good one. And I am going to have a lot of adventures on this boat with my family.
I look forward to starting a thread about where to mount my transducer. Much less stressful.....

If Starcraft didn't know the boat left in that condition why did they say it had no warranty?

Re: My new boat nightmare.....

I suspect that both the dealer and manufacturer may have been reading this thread. If so, good, it had the desired effect and brought fairness and common sense to the table.

I am so glad you came out tops on this I feared the worst at one stage of the drama.

Fantastic rig you have, go enjoy!
