I have the butterflies and cant sit still.:D:D:D:D:D:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

and airplane stripper!!!!!!

Ayuh,.... Looks alota like my '74 Islander,......

The best tip I can give ya is,.....
Don't strip off the paint, just sand it smooth, 'n repaint it,.....

You'll save yerself a ton of money, 'n grief, not havin' to prime, 'n seal the bare metal,.....

Making me nervous. Feeling very confident in doing this. What horrors lurk untold in this process?

Like Bondo says...No need to strip to bare metal. Just sand really well and wash her down with a good de-greaser (Tri-Sodium Phosphate is a good one) Then you only need to prime the bare spots with good Self Etching Primer or Zinc Chromate primer. I like to prime the entire boat with the recommended primer for the final Color coat but..You don't have to if you don't want to. Lot's of the members have used this to paint their boats...Paint Your Boat with Tractor Paint...Say What!!!

Hmmm, link works fine for me...The Link is in my signature as well. It's also on page 16 Post #238 of my Boat Restoration thread. The Tractor Paint is just Acrylic Enamel Paint and with the added hardener it's like Car paint. IF this boat will be a TRAILERED boat and NOT left in the Marina for extended periods of time (more than 2-3 weeks) then this paint formula will work very well.

By the way, I REALLY like your signature line!!!

Looks like you're making good progress on a nice Islander. Tagging along if that's okay. One word of caution on these old aluminum boats, remember not ot use any pressure treated lumber on her or you could have corrosion problems anywhere the wood comes in contact with the aluminum.

Sure , tag along:lol:. If you had not tagged with this post I would not have known about the pressure treated wood issue.
THANK YOU:laugh::laugh:!!
I am a tittle cautious about using a grease remover to get the old engine oil and sticky stuff off the inside of the boat:suspicion:. It will get power washed and I have new gluvit to reseal the hull. Any suggestions for warnings?:confused:
