Wow that transom looks :twitch: real nice! Not!! It's amazing how much debri ends up in an unused or parked and forgotten boat. You're making good progress, and looks like you're close to being finished with the demo work.

Fighting to get rid of the sticky gunk that was left under the flotation. Tried some aluminum wheel cleaner that was safe for pontoons but as you can see the black crap does not want to let go. Afraid of the acetone or anything stronger. Don't want to damage the original sealer on the seems even though I have gluvit to reapply. Need help!

You could try aplying some MEK with a rag directly to the residue. That may loosen it up enough to get it off. Put the MEK on the rag and then rub it on the residue, let it soak in a minute or two, then wipe or scrape it up. I've used it to remove carpet adhesive from both my boats. It's also a good cleaner for 3M 4200/5200 before it cures.

Will try it this weekend. More progress pics

This week I remove paint and leak check the hull and also begin construction on the replacement transom.
Please give opinions and ideas:) Rectangle aluminum stock makes the boarder of the transom and the horizontal and vertical stock. This should give strength to an aluminum plate that will hold the out-drive. Machine shop cut to the out-drive pattern and exact bolt placement.
Double clicking the pic will make it easy to see. Give opinions and ideas.:)

Try not to start new topics about the same project.

I've combined them for you

If you'd like to rename this topic something else, just let a mod know

Thanks

That looks like back breaking work! Were you able to get a good bit of the old paint off with the stripper or did you end up sanding more? I've had pretty good luck with the citrus strip product from Lowes. Are you going to strip the top as well? Hope it hasn't been to hot where you live. Stripping paint in the hot sun is bound to be no fun at all.

90% of the old paint and primer came right off. I did sand a little of the remaining residue off. Yes its hot but I had a good breeze today:D the top is also getting stripped. Using the Kleen strip remover.
