I bought a 1954 Cambridge . I know MFG started in 1955 so this may be a prototype. The Stirling trailer ,which is sweet, is registered as a 1954 and that in itself is reason for me to believe she was built then. The rubrail is not rubber and all the ones I have seen pics of are,so is that another indication? There is also a letter from Ohio DMV with 1954 as her birthdate. This will be project #2 and may sit for a while as the Westy is closer to being done.See link below posted by 1Fishbone for pics,Craigs has ben deleted, thanks.I noticed that they kept raising the max HP on these as the years went by. Wondering if this was because they just started to make the larger engines during that time? So that will be my next quest, the right engine, thinking maybe 1956/57 as they seemed to be reliable, not sure if pre 55 are as well built. Any thoughts on that?

Re: My New Project

The very first MFG I ever dealt with was titled as a 1954. A buddy had bought it used in 1955 in Michigan. It had a two piece hull, the keel was wood, as was everything besides the aluminum rub rail and the left and right hull sections. (I'm pretty sure his was built in two pieces, a left and right hull, with wood down the middle). It was finished all in bare wood and varnish with a white hull. He ran a 1950 something Evinrude 35hp. He had the boat until about 10 years ago when the transom got too rotten to use. His was on an old Gator trailer till the day he sold it. I got the impression that the guy bought the boat for it's motor.

His also had slightly different seating, there was a solid wall behind the seats, you had to climb over to get to the rear. The transom was also odd in that it was wood over fiberglass. The wood was a sandwiched over the glass hull.

Re: My New Project

You have described what I have.My transom is solid. Talked to a MFG guru and the hull is one piece. He thinks 1955 or 56 may be the
model year, have to do some exploring on that

The steering wheel and hub are Atwood which does not surprise me as I think there branding came later on. The rub rail as the PO and myself were discussing appears stock not sure though. The guru tells me that they were rubber so more research is to be done. thanks.
