Re: My new Starcraft Project

When I first saw the new controls I was a bit worried about how they looked set up on the rail. But you sure did a fine job of finishing up the installation. Congrats.

Thanks, at first I didn't think it would look good either but I was sooo fed up with the other setup I didn't care. It does look at bit out of place, but I think it's okay.

Re: My new Starcraft Project

Took the boat out yesterday and had another successful trip. The weather was perfect! We only caught one fish, a small blue, but we still had a great time. My buddy recently purchased a waverunner so we decided to take that out with us. Unfortunately you can't ride them through the Cape May Canal, so we towed it through. When we entered the bay my buddy jumped on. We were able to get some videos of the boat and waverunner. Boat ran great by the way. Looks like she has a top speed of 30mph at 3000rpm. I'm thinking she would do better with a different prop, but for now it'll work fine.

Re: My new Starcraft Project

It's been a while so I figure it's time for an update. I haven't done much worthy of taking pictures, so I will just list everything.

1. Replaced the old not marine grade electric fuel pump, which the PO installed, with a mechanical one.
2. Replaced all fuel lines.
3. Added an inline fuel filter.
4. Installed Pertronix electronic ignition.
5. Replaced distributor and rotor.
6. Replaced all spark plugs and wires.
7. Clean out the carb and replaced the fuel accelerator.
8. Tested compression, 1-145, 2-150, 3-150, 4-150!

Motor runs great, but the WOT speed and RPM's are down. We?re only getting 2,800-3,000 RPM's and around 24mph. I suspect this has to do with the prop. I'm still running the same one that was installed for the old 140hp motor.

Went down to Cape May for a week and kept the boat in a slip. Took the boat out every day. It was great! Here are some pictures.

Nice! Gonna do any fishing in the bay? We caught 27 flounder(only one keeper) about 4 miles from Brandywine Shoal last saturday. Tons of fun!

We're taking her out this Saturday, but I'm picking up a new prop first. Been doing tons of research and talking to lots of experts (here on iBoats) and have decided to go with a 17" prop. I'm thinking that will get me to 4200rpms. Not sure where my top speed will be, I'll be happy with anything over 30mph. Still trying to figure out why the PO put a 23" prop on her... I probably should have looked at that a while ago!! Bah!

Thanks guys! Look closely at the picture of the boat in the slip... Notice anything around the outdrive? I'll give you a hint, NO WATER! The slip is at a friend of a friends shore house, and it was dead low tide. The owner said this as low as he has seen it in a looong time. The back of the boat is actually sitting in mud! I was a little worried about the mud with the water pump, but I guess when the tide came back in everything washed out. I did keep my eye on the temp gage more than usual that afternoon though!

Took her out today with a brand new 17" prop and instantly felt an amazing improvement! Top speed is still about 30mph, but my RPMs are at 4100! Finally! Acceleration was greatly improved too, she jumped on plane amazingly fast. She's up on plane at least three times faster now. She'll be a blast to tube with.

Re: My new Starcraft Project

It's been a long time since my last post as I haven't done much to the boat. A buddy made me custom rocket launchers which turned out great! It looks a bit out of place with the Bimini down, but I still like it. He made it out of stainless tubing and the mounting brackets allow the whole piece to fold down.

He wanted to go fishing this past Friday. I had to work so I told him to just take the boat. He took his two brothers out too. I get a picture message on my cell phone around 2pm while I was in a meeting...

Re: My new Starcraft Project

Took the boat out again (still don't have a name for her) this past Sunday and were greeted with some rough water. This boat actually handles rough water better than I expected for an tin hull. Brandywine Shoal light was reporting 3-4 foot waves. Didn't catch anything, had a couple of solid hits though.
