It is a plastic material, just like cutting boards. These sheets are made for boat decks so they won't be slippery, or fade in the sun. It comes in 1/2" or 34" 4'x8' sheets which are extremely heavy! Much heavier then standard plywood. I ordered the 1/2" and it seemed much heavier than 3/4" plywood. I was concerned about the weight, but the boat is actually lighter now with the wet rotten wood out so I am okay with that. I ordered mine from a local lumber yard, it ran about 180$ a sheet.

Re: My new Starcraft Project

Finally picked up the new motor. It's a 120, so I lost 20hp, but I can live with that. I got the motor which was rebuild and I was told has no hours on it since the rebuild. The guy I bought it from boat a boat for the outdrive, then he took this motor out and sold it to me. The motor looked great, but it was on a cart and we could not run it. I got it for $300 and it included trim cylinders, which I needed because mine are cracked, and an exhaust tube(not sure if that is was it is called, it's the tube that the shudder valve is in). I figured that the tube and cylinders would be worth it even if the motor didn't run. We started the motor swap 7am on Saturday and had everything ready to go by 2pm. The motor fired right up on the first attempt and sounded and ran great! We got done so early we decided to install the new Bimini top that I got on iBoats. The top is a little too tall, but I got it during the cyber Monday liquidation sale and couldn't turn down the opportunity!

Re: My new Starcraft Project

Okay, it's been a while since my last update! The forecast for the Saturday looks great, so I'm gonna try and go out on the Delaware bay. This will be the first trip with the new motor.

Installed new Garmin GPS, Eagle color depth finder and VHF radio. Unfortunately I move some things around on the dash which uncovered the old green vinyl. Guess I have to get more paint!

I'm really happy with the dog house. It's got a stainless frame, cutting board material on the front and top, and stainless side panels. It's a little bit heavier than the old wood one, but it's not too bad, and will probably outlast the boat!

Yeah, I hear ya. I spent about $250 more on the electronics and horns, than the boat itself...

We'll see how it goes, I haven't had a completely successful trip yet... I'll be bringing a video camera and will take a bunch of pics to post. And remember, I went the quick and easy route - aka vinyl paint - I will be the jealous one when you're all done.

Thanks, can't beat free! I'm sure as soon as I get everything working correctly I will be able to switch from working on it to enjoying it... although I have to say I do enjoy working on it too!

Re: My new Starcraft Project

jcup the new electronics and merc look awesome, great job. I like the idea of using that marine board, no rot.:D

Also since your rig is a huge 22' I'd bet the added weight is not very noticable so good call on that. Hope all goes well with your trip this weekend, I have a burning desire to take mine out too...but I have a few things to wrap up first.

Re: My new Starcraft Project

Well I didn't do much worthy of picture taking so I'll start off with what was, the horns. They sound great and I think they look even better!

Got the stereo mounted and wired, changed the gear oil, attached the bimini and mounted the float switch. Fired the motor up - I have to admit I was nervous - but it started and sounded great and no water in the oil... woohoo!!!. Now all that is left is a bit of cleaning and making all the wires under the dash look pretty. Hopefully we are good to go for Saturday although I am sure I'm forgetting something important.

Those horns look great! OK, don't forget all your Coast Guard required stuff and by all means don't forget to pack some sandwiches (food is always very important to me)!

Re: My new Starcraft Project

Thanks guys, I'm really happy about the horns.

So, we took her out yesterday and lasted about 6 minutes. We launched the boat and fired up the motor and noticed a small, slow drip coming from the bottom of the exhaust manifold. We were concerned but still headed for the bay with the intension of keeping very close eye on it. Got her moving about 27-28mph at about 3000rpm, when I noticed she was running a bit hot. Removed the dog house and that slow drip was now a large waterfall spraying out of multiple cracks all over the manifold, which I have video of - will post tomorrow! Trips over, we turned around and went home. Stopped at a marina and ordered a brand new manifold that should be in at the end of this week. Looks like there was a crack which the PO of the motor fixed with some kind of filler, nice right? Maybe it worked for him, but his band-aid blew apart.

Now there is white goop on the underside of the oil filler cap, and the oil was a bit milky... ARGH!! I can't seem to get away from milky oil!! The oil was fine before this trip, so I am hoping the blown up manifold is the cause.

Another unsuccessful trip! I'll get her right eventually... I still have to name her btw, maybe something with milky oil??

Re: My new Starcraft Project

Sorry to hear that. It certainly does often take a couple trips to get the kinks worked out. I got towed home by a jet ski of all things my first or second trip out with my last boat.

Like I said, it started as a very slow drip then everything blew apart.
