Hello there everyone.
Just brought this home today. Did quite a bit of reading here before I bought this. And since the threads always ask for pictures here are some.

She is pretty much stock with a Johnson 140hp v4.

I think I need to add a speedometer and tach. The speedo will be pretty easy. But I'll need to figure out where to pick up the tach signal.

The previous owner left a string in the belly to pull wiring to the rear.

In case anyone is wondering $2,200 :D

Congrats I own a winner and they are well made boats. for the tach you need to trace a wire from your rectifier but more than likely it had one already installed and installing a new one should be as simple as finding the right wire.

Re: My new (to me) Winner 1850 Center Console

I am on my fourth season with an 89 1850 with the original 89 140 Evinrude, and the quality of the boat (sure, minor issues with the old engine and electrical needs to be kept up) never fails to impress.

Mine had even more decals/stripes than yours. The look of these boats is great when that is all cleaned off. I get comments on the boat often - just a great looking CC with classic lines. YOu will see lots of help in this post section on the Winner 1850 CC.

Where did you find this for only $2200? I believe I saw this boat advertised before. That is a great buy!

Have fun!

It was in Montgomery AL.

I've been looking at ways to remove the long decals. 3M has a tool for around 30 bucks that strips them off with a drill. If anyone has tried one or has another idea chime in.

Ken did yours have a tach? If so what are the wire colors? I have a connector with purple, grey and black wires hanging behind the ignition switch was thinking that might be the tech connection.

I'm pretty sure my boat came with no tach and no speedo. The wood on the instrument panel looks original, there are no extra holes and no evidence of a pitot tube?

Ive haven't tried this on a boat but a hair dryer usually works to loosen up the glue on the stickers. I would give it a try but be careful not to heat the gelcoat to much. Those sound like the right wires but do yourself a favor and get a good manual for your motor because you will need it down the road. Also do a search on here for wiring up tachs to omc motors and you shall find your answer about the wire colors.

I took my decals off with the rubber drill wheel and it worked great, just went through 3 battery charges to finish it, I got it off the snap on truck for about 25-30 dollars, I don't remember but it did work well and took about 10 minutes a side

turbowes,
I did a search on the Johnson tach wiring and found several threads stating
purple =12v
grey=signal
black=ground

pny212,
Glad to here they work. My FIL owned a body shop and we spent days pulling big decals of a fleet of corporate vans using a heat gun. They were turning them back in off lease. it sucks doing it that way.

Read next post for new guy does something stupid.

She was running Ok yesterday with a flush hose attached.

But the primer bulb would not get very hard. Started looking and found the fuel filter wasn't together tight. Here is where the stupid part comes in.

While checking it I must have pumped about a pint of fuel into the carbs. I tried to start the motor and it would only try to fire if I advanced the throttle. Sure sign of flooding. Well I finally pulled the carb cover off and fuel RAN out. letting it air out now.

Guess I'll go see why it's hard to get the throttle to disengage from the shift position. Then I'll tackle wiring the trim buttons correctly.

Re: My new (to me) Winner 1850 Center Console

I took off my decals with a hairdryer, plastic putty knife, fingernails and patience. If yours is like mine, the stripes are easy as the are just long pieces of tape. Heat them up and off they come pulling very slowly. The Winner name is different - a plastic decal - but it too comes off with the hairdryer. NOT a heat gun, just my wife's hairdryer. Mine also came with large "waves" between the name and the stripe. They were the largest and hardest to remove.

Then I used Poliglow. It is a great product for restoring an old hull (assuming your gel coat is a little murky). Scrubbed the hull as directed and 6 coats of poliglow in one afternoon and the decal shadows were gone, the hull looks like new. I am sold on Poliglow. I think their site is poliglow.com, or google it. It is $74 for the kit, but I put on 4 more coats at the beginning of this season and still have half a bottle left.

My 89 model also came with tack and speedo. Speedo never worked cause the wheel on the transom was busted.
