I just bought a 1978 Wellcraft Nova 210XL from the original owner.

He is a mechanic, and this thing has been maintained better than ANY 31 year old vehicle I have ever seen.

It's been upgraded more way than I can count. It has an Alpha one, it has a remote oil reservoir for the lower unit. It has an anti galvanic corrosion grounding system. It has awesome heavy duty tabs. It has an original mercooler system. The engine you could eat off of. It has spent it's life out of the water on a boat lift, and has never had bottom paint.
It has all the owners manuals, and even a perfect condition brochure!
It runs great, and is a joy on the water.

I had to buy a trailer, which I picked up yesterday. I will pick up the Nova on Friday, can't wait.

I will post pics then ,but she's a beauty!

Congrats! Sounds like a rare find. They're good solid boats if the stringers and transom were kept dry.
Will you be using it on the Chesapeake? Those Nova hulls are great for the Bay chop- I had a 23 Nova XL for 18 years.
Don't forget to post some pics!

Yep, I'll use it on the bay and it's tributaries, including Conowingo lake. Hopefully I can make the painted trailer I bought last.

Wow, that's a real nice boat. Definitely shows how well it was maintained. Looks like it could handle big water well.

I agree- that boat is beautiful! Looks like you just took it out of a time capsule!!
Keep it covered so mother nature doesn't ruin it.....

Oh, one other thing- I noticed the boat seems a bit too far back on the trailer. A properly balanced load should have 10-15% of the weight at the tongue.

Again, a good find, and good luck with it!

I moved the winch stand all the way forward, and now have only a couple inches hanging off the rear bunks. I also bought a 7" drop ball mount, as the 5" had it riding high on level ground. You can see how light the tongue must be in this picture, it's not squatting one bit, those are 130K mile springs on the back of my truck.

I drove it 50 miles home, and had some sway on the ride home. I stayed at well under 60 mph, as I didn't like the load placement, and the tires are looking questionable.

I am either adding a metal structure behind my garage, or I will see if it will fit between my 2 post lift, with one of my leak free vehicles stored over it. Might be scary to think of that
I put it's tonneau cover on, and a tarp over top for the time being.

I am still incredibly stoked at what I equate to almost a barn find in the muscle car world.

Skargo-
I'd love to see that boat in person so I can drool all over it.
If you ever launch in Havre de Grace please let me know.
My slip is at City Dock/ Tydings Park. It's only a few miles from Conowingo Lake....

Hey Arks, my wife and I did the boat circuit thing today to pick up some last minute pointers, man oh man did we see some doozies, and we did some good deeds too, after seeing these debacles, I think we'll be just fine.

Anyway, we ended the day at the City Dock, we sat at the bench by the launch. Is your boat in the water yet? ARe you next to the "Tranquility" or maybe is that your boat?

Hope to run into you soon, we are launching next Sunday if the weather cooperates, just not sure where yet.

Well, that's my pier but "Winter Dream" isn't there yet. My good friend Al owns "Tranquility". That boat is without question the NICEST 30' Sea Ray in existence. I always tell him he's making my boat look bad! My slip is 632, which is facing the launch ramp next to that old Carver with the white tarp on it. I love sitting on my boat watching all the antics at the launch ramp.
I'm still laboring with the bottom work and won't be wet until Memorial Day at the earliest, BUT if I need a break I might bring my Jonboat for the day.

Great! Make sure you have a chart of the waters, wherever you go. Take it easy until you know how she runs and handles. Hope you have a good run.

Re: My "new" Wellcraft Nova 210 XL

Thanks, will do!

BTW, it was shallow today, watched a few get stuck to the right of the ramp if you are looking down the ramp.

How is the channel to the right that hugs the shore, as opposed to the main one?

You should adjust those bunks too, so they aren't directly on the chines. Otherwise a very nice find! Take care of her!

I've moved them a bit, but am still not happy. I'll adjust it with the boat off next week. Starboard side looks perfect, should I adjust the bunks port to measure out the same?

Re: My "new" Wellcraft Nova 210 XL

I'd set them to sit just under the chines, would make loading/centering a bit easier, as well as remove the stress on your hull. You've got a lot of weight sitting on the points of the chines there. Drop the top ones down. At least from your first pics.

Re: My "new" Wellcraft Nova 210 XL

Thanks, will do. I'm going to replace these bunks with some longer ones soon, as my transom is still 6" or so off the ends. It's probably OK but peace of mind means a lot.
