You do need it in fresh as well (says the guy who doesn't have one), just that it the electrolysis won't happen anywhere near as fast.

My trim tab is not sacrificial.

Yep, you're right... I have three of those i think and now when mounting Smart tabs I'll have to put one of those on either one...
And guess what, a have to buy new set every season, as my boat stays in sea for 2 months...
You're lucky you have lakes and not so salty seas...
btw I'm boating in Jadransko more... see if you can find that..

Thanks for the info. I don't run in saltwater, but still need it for the trim purpose.

Don't forget you've got at least one and possibly two more on your outdrive. I can see the edge of one in your photo. It's on the leading edge of your outdrive screwed to either the front edge of the anti-cavitation plate or the other horizontal stablizer. It's a thin, flat plate with a little hump in the middle made out of the same colour zinc as your trim tab.

My Merc Alpha drive also had a round one with fins located down at the bottom where the drive meets the transom. All should be checked for excessive pitting throughout the season.
