HI
I live near Lisbon, Portugal where the temperature in winter it is never negative.
So on my Volvo 5.0 GI PWTR, TBI, from 1999, my winterizing is:
- Monthly run up the engine during 15 minutes at 1000 ? 1500 rpm.
- I only remove the 2 drain plug from the exhaust manifold, in order to always have water on the impeller of the sea water pump, to maintain the impeller wetted and so flexible.
My first remove of the exhaust manifold and Elbow it took place after 10 years, with any problem (cobalt 226 with 450 sea water hours).
So this ?no? winterizing is sufficient?
Thanks, Almeida

Winterizing is more than just preventing freeze damage, it's also a time to do the yearly maintenance items on your engine and drive.

Where you are at, it should just be called long term storage. Here is a thread that covers all the yearly requirements for winterizing. Just don't worry about draining the engine or manifolds. If you have run the engine on fresh water (Not salt water) to flush it out, then there is no reason you need to drain anything.

How long are you planning on the boat sitting unused? No reason to run it monthly if it's going to sit for only a few months, and keeping a rubber impeller wet does nothing. Impellers should be replaced at least every other year.

Thanks by the answer
The boat is sitting unused during 7 months, but I will also perform the normal maintenance, oil, filters, remove the outdrive, check all the bellows, drain the gear lube from the drive and refill, remove the prop ....

Thanks

7 months is considered long term storage. You for sure want to pull the prop and drive yearly if used in salt or brackish water, or you could find you can't remove the drive or the prop at all due to corrosion.
Here is a .pdf file on removing and re-installing the drive. Use the grease on the mounting studs and shafts where noted.

You don't want to have a problem like this one. http://forums.iboats.com/volvo-pent...sing-stuck-drive-i-need-some-help-586139.html

Here is the maintenance schedule Volvo publishes for your year engine.
