I am working on a '61 Chev 3/4 ton pickup. Not really trying to keep it orig, already put in a 400 small block with an auto tranny, new drive line ect. I plan on using this as a fun runner parts, gravel , haul anything type truck.

It now runs like an old muscle car and fun as heck to drive.

I am planning to finish the body work, (not much work but some surface rust), then paint it.

It has an old wood bed in it. I think it would be cool to replace the wood, but its not to pratical if I want to beat the hell out of the bed by hauling rocks and stuff.

Should I put in a rhino liner type bed or go for the wood. I have no experience maintaining the wood. How hard is it?

JB, I didn't think this belonged in the tech topics, but I won't get made if you move it.

Spud

Re: My old 61 chev truck

I had a 66 that originally had a wooden bed. I used a urethane sealer on a piece of plywood the size of the floor. After I laid it in I reinstalled the metal strips. It looked pretty good and I didn't feel bad about hauling stuff in it. Alot cheaper than the original type wood also.

Here's a thought... Use the "plastic" lumber that's commonly used for outdoor decks...

Might need heat sheilds if the mufflers are too close, but that's the only drawback I can think of...
