So I took my boat out to the lake on friday..
While putting it in the trailer my nephew said ur outdrive is low, I said raise it up a little so it wont get damaged while taking it out of the water...
When I got home, I wanted to lower the trim so that I could store it in my garage, when I hit the down switch I notice that only the solenoid was clicking. So I tried manually putting pressure on the outdrive to lower it with my nephew holding the switch down and I wasnt able to lower it.I noticed that its stuck on the up right position.. Do you think he held the switch to long when raising the trim?
Is there a way I could manually lower it? What can be causing the outdrive to get stuck when raising the trim all the way to the top?
The first time I lowered it from being stuck I put force on the outdrive to lower it the switch being held down.

I just put a new outdrive tilt motor last tuesday..

Mine is a 1976 model. The only manual way to lower the drive would be to support the lower drive and remove the curved rack gear. It is bolted with three bolts to the upper drive housing.

As to your issue, I'd suspect a failed soleniod. You may also check for corosion on all your 12V connections and ground connections feeding the down soleniod.

when i first got my boat 83' malibu 3.0 omc 4 cyl. same thing happened to me. tilt would not go up or down. it would just click. i took the gear quadrant off. i placed a jack under the stern so it wouldnt swing down. when stern is loose go up/down and the tilt switch. maybe change the gear oil too! after that it was fine on its own up and down.

If you only get clicking with the quadrant gear off (ie, tilt mechanism isn't supporting the drive at all), you may have a broken shaft or hammer-blow coupler or your tilt clutch housing cover might be on too tight (needs a thicker gasket to hold the cover off the housing just a tad more so as not to bind the shaft inside).

Sure sounds like a solenoid to me though.

Re: My OMC outdrive got stuck again..

Had to apply my own advice yesterday. My tilt worked fine when I launched, but when I went to raise the lower unit up after pulling my boat up the ramp, no joy. I removed the three bolts on the tilt pinion gear, raised the outdrive and supported it with a short mop I use in my bildge, then reinstalled the tilt pinion gear. Sometime this week I'll diagnose the problem.
