I know, It's been beat to death. When I winterize,I drain the block/coolers ect, while I'm changing the oil after warm up. When all the oil and maintenance is done I'll run -100 through the motor with it hooked through the muff's. Then I'll test the anti freeze with the refractometer at the exhaust,at the exhaust manifold and at the block. Never had a problem. The reason I use -100 is if you read the jug,it says -100 burst protection,-50 freeze protection. The pink reads -50 burst protection, -15 freeze protection. It very seldom gets that cold in my neck of the wood's but I like the peace of mind of using the anti freeze. Yeah I know air don't freeze. But residual water will freeze. If drained properly bond-o is right. I just don't want to have to replace a customer's motor or mine in the spring when boating is a short season.I even run anti freeze through outboard's as I've seen one that did not drain properly due to a plugged weep hole, not at my workplace but it still happend.Don't really want to buy a new outboard for a customer when theirs is old or new.Anti freeze: cheap protection.
