my overheating problem

so i put in new impeller and new s/stat: as long as i stay within 5000 to 5200rpm im good but pass that and horn goes off.i dont get it.also i can be going and doing fine then hit a wave horn sound and turns off again BUT not in every wave just on some very little times.im so confused right now

also with s/stats on i can put hands on covers and feel it hot.if i remove the s/stats i can leave my hands on covers for ever ...if i remove them will i hurt the motor

The t-stat is there to moderate temps from idle to wide open, you did not mention year or model, without this info its hard to give sound advice, is it oil injected or pre-mix? If its doing it at high rpms and when in rough water, it could be an electrical ground problem.

sorry its a 1997 200hp vidicator evenrude model# E200 STLEUB its oil injected but that was taken out and i pre-mix it myself

Did you check that the stats are opening at the right temperature ???

The fact that it comes on when you hit waves sounds to me more like a short in the wiring... In other words, maybe a wire is grounding out somewhere causing the horn to come on... As for the high RPM's, it's possible the same thing is happening but the vibration at higher RPM's cause it... My guess is you have an electrical problem not an overheating problem???

Stats are there for a reason. If they were not needed they would save the $$$$ and not put them on.

ok i will look at all my wireing and update you all soon.i might even rewire the entire boat.what i find really weird in wireing is that the horn has 2 plugs on it .now to 1 off those plug is connected a wire that comes from the ignition.when ignition is turned on power goes through that cable onto the horn.then the other plug the brown wire from engine which is from the temp sensor is plug to it.so me trying to make my temp guage work i tap into the brown wire and connect it to the sending into the guage but guage still dont work.ground and power to guage is good also guage is brand new.

your horn wiring is correct

you have a power wire connected to the horn and then your wire from your temp sensor.

when the temp sensor gets to a specific temp, it grounds the wire (which is connected to the horn) and that allows the hot wire to complete a circuit and sound the alarm
