My Own Piece of Stupidity

So, Last night I get the chance to go to the lake by myself. Oh boy, nobody to say it's too rough, or it's too fast......nothing. So I get into a big friggin' hurry ( thus breaking my cardinal rule ) .... get home...drop the tongue on the ball, lock the hitch, uncover the boat, tilt the motor, go inside and get changed, come out, start up and head down the road........about 5 minutes later this light comes on in my mind saying (expletive deleted ), I didn't hook up the safety chains or the lights. :redface:
Anyhow, I found a safe place to pull over and rectify those problems, and did my walk around on the side of a two lane country road...not recommended
Nobody is immune to mistakes, but rushing makes it more likely.


And Yeah, it was a nice night on the lake after that.

Amazing how we learn from our mistakes.

Once, I forgot to latch the hitch on the ball (not the boat trailer). Hit a big bump and heard a big bang, jumped out and felt stupid. Lesson learned.

Once, I launched the boat and parked the truck/trailer. Get back to the boat and my girlfriend asked if this water is supposed to be in the boat. Forgot the plug. Lesson learned. (Hard lesson, I ran to the the trailer only to find it blocked by a woman who had never towed a trailer and it was stuck. Waited patiently for a few minutes and then asked I could move it for her. She refused saying she needed to figure it out and then I explained my boat was sinking. Now, I felt really stupid.)

Now, not only are these things automatic, but I perform an inspection walk around after everything is complete and insure that nothing was missed. Ha, famous last words...

I once seen a guy pull out of a gas station pulling a boat.. Turned to the left across 2 lanes. Catch is.. You can only turn right.. There is a median in the middle of the lanes. Plows right over them. As soon as he pulled in front of me I see a shower of sparks from under his boat. I pull around him and see the trailer being pulled by the safety chains. I pull up unroll my window and start to tell him he's dragging his boat.. He just Not so politely waived at me with 1 finger..

At 1st I thought about pulling in front of him to try and get him to stop but a around comes the village police doing a U-turn.. Right behind him...

Of course be being the half *** I am.. I had to pull around the block drive by slowly and smile making sure he saw me..

one time we put the hitch reciever in, but not the pin. we didnt notice it till we came to a stop.

Old rule of carpenters is "measure twice, cut once". In other words, stop and think and take your time.
Now, where did I put that board stretcher?

Forgot to hook up my safety chains today for the first time ever !!!! realised about 3 minutes into the drive to the ramp. Stopped and hooked them up. Hopefully this is the first and last time but you never know do you !!!!

Thursday I arrived at my ramp to find my trailer light plug dragging along the road, having travelled that way for 80 miles through downpours and the bridge tunnel. They still work although filed down a bit! And I trailer all the time. I was in a hurry leaving, aggravated over one of those 20 minutes repairs that took an hour and a half and had to be abandoned.
As we have said before, you get in a hurry and you get stupid, or hurt. Oh well, the Lord looks ouot for fools and drunkards.

Cut it twice, and it's STILL too short.
