I'll never understand it but why do some people leave their boats uncovered for the winter. I'm on the road myself and see so many boats in driveways ,lots, even at marinas that are left uncovered in the nice weather and even wide open in the winter with the interior filled with snow. Most people that care have their boats shrink wrapped or even go down to harbor freight and get a blue tarp for $25.00 and cover it up. It doesn't take much people. I see people down at my marina even in the summer that don't have a cockpit cover and when it rains the boats is soaked inside. what are these people thinking? Wet seats and carpeting, now the floor starts getting soft, water on the instruments. These are the people that when they sell their boats never have an interior picture of it, because you really don't want to see it anyway and then say "interior needs some TLC". Every boat ad on craigslist or ebay that only shows the outside of their boat, is really telling you that you'll need to replace the interior. Well you can see that this is my pet peeve. I can't be alone, can I? Just my opinion. thanks-Russ

It's their stuff and they can do with it what they want. None of my business.

There is a Regal in a driveway that I drive by everyday that never leaves said driveway and is never covered. Have often thought of offering the guy some money for it, fixing up the upholstery, that I am sure it needs, and selling it. I am sure it has VERY low hours.

My Aluminum has sat through many winters and springs without being covered, never shown any problems over the years, I put the motor back on it in the spring and head out for the lake.

Different strokes I guess. There is a newer Glastron that I drive by daily and they will leave it in the driveway all summer uncovered and then at least garage it in the winter. As life gets busier, I start to cut corners here and there such as not washing it after a long trip but a tarp takes a few minutes to put on at most.

As passionate as we are about boats, many people out there buy them for driveway ornaments, I have a friend that bought one several years ago and has never had it in the water, it just sits in his driveway uncovered, I have tried to buy it from him several times and he always says no. He said he didn't want the neighbors to think things were getting bad in his life!

Go figure.

Here in AZ the Sun will do some serious damage in just a year or two. I get more peeved about these neglecting owners when they are trying to sell. I see many ads on craigslist where the boat was kept uncovered and the vinyl is toast. Some sellers understand and have prices adjusted accordingly what peeves me are the ads where the sellers are fooling themselves and think a rotted out sun checked boat with, hazed gauges, yellow plastic, damaged gel coat, rotten tires is desirable, lake ready and just needs some TLC! Some of these rigs you'd have to pay me to tow away not the other way around. But hey it is there stuff. Let em keep it!

I'm with Bruce. Their boat, their money and their problem.

I believe we recently had this exact conversation......

A guy down the street fits this bill perfectly. The boat sat out in rain and snow for about 4 years, sinking into the grass unused. The boat wasn't more than about 5 years old. Then, all of a sudden, it went in the garage and I see him cleaning and polishing day after day. Then out it came again and he's running it on muffs. A heck of a time getting it to run, I might add. Finally, its out again with the canvas on it this time (looks like new factory canvas that was never used) with a for sale sign.

I look in Craigslist and there it is......"low hours, lightly used every year and always garage kept".

Pitty the poor sucker that bought THAT used boat!

Mine never get tarped or shrink wrapped. They get put in the boat hangar.

:spider:hey, I need these people that don't take care of their stuff. if it weren't for them I wouldn't be able to afford a boat:wof:, everyone would keep their boat so nice, wouldn't be able to find one for less than 6 grand. at least I can find one for a couple hundred bucks then a hundred bucks a week over a few months on restoration materials, and viola :drum: a running seaworthy boat :fish2: on a low income with no credit needed:whoo: I wish everyone would let them go to junk sitting out in the weather

Couldn't agree more. Everything I own is someone elses foreclosure or throw away...EVERYTHING. For pennies on the dollar and a little elbow grease, I get to play along side the financially strapped and trapped.

Im still trying to figure out the logic behind parking a $30k truck in the driveway so they can keep a $3k boat in the garage........lol

Although not a pet peeve or even a peeve at all, i do wonder about some of those people who leave expensive boats uncovered all winter long?
