Hello iboats. I have finally decided to post my resto as I am starting to wonder if maybe I have gotten in over my head.
The boat is a 74 Ebbtide with a good running 45 hp which I picked up from CL for a few hundred dollars. It is rotten to the core (of course) everywhere and I thought this would be a fun winter project. ha... like so many others, I had no idea what I was getting myself into!

I have been lurking here since the day I got the boat and googled "Ebbtide" .. I had no idea what I was in for.. I went from not knowing what a transom or stringer was, to as of yesterday, ordering my supplies from us composites :) ...
so with that I want to thank everyone for posting thier restos... and especially thanks to guys like Woodonglass, oops, Drew, and so many others, for teaching me everything, and more, that I have ever wanted to know about what I have in store for me. I feel like I already know all of you personally :)

Anyway, tonight I struggled with the removal of the floor in the bow... and I have concerns about the transom, but I can get into that later... on with the pics....

Re: My project, 74 Ebbtide

yeah, this pix:

Suggests that there has been some repairs (less then ideal) done previously on the transom..........

And waterlogged funky foam, oh the joy....

Looks like the interesting repairs continued along the hull bottom~hull side area too. Great Stuff isn't so great in a boat

Welcome to the iboats dry dock.......

Those guys you mentioned & others will get ya all the info & help you need to get this Ebbtide back into service....

EDIT: by the time I noticed Den's pix had been moved or deleted, I didn't remember which of the pix I'd copied & pasted into my post
facepalm.gif
I'm pretty sure it was 1 of the ones above. Pick which ever best shows previous work and pretend it's posted above ^^^^....

And you as well, so thank you... Less than ideal repairs is an understatement but I intend to fix it if I can. The cap is off, the front boxes are out and the million lbs of foam has been removed so I guess I'm all in now.. I did have it on the water for two long days and it didn't sink, so that was a positive :)... will update pics as I go.

Re: My project, 74 Ebbtide

Its cleaned out and ready to begin the dreaded grinding. Put the cap back on today temporarily, to get it off the trailr and into a partially finished cradle... Will finish that and do some trailr work tomrrw. Going to be a nice weekend here so get to spend plenty of time on it and will update pics the next few days.

I did notice an interesting thing tonight while it was in the garage on the cradle... it was dark outside, lights on in the garage shining into the boat... I crawl under the hull (working on cradle) and see alll the spots where light is shining through! two small holes, a thin 2 inch gash and several "weak" spots in the bottom of the hull that I never would have noticed otherwise.

Re: My project, 74 Ebbtide

By the time you finnish grinding out all the old glass. you will find a few more. Make a note of where they are. When putting in the new stringers you will beef up alot of the area in the hull. If you don't cover the areas you find you can add more glass (1.5 oz matt and 1708) over those areas.
Also take alot of mearements of the hull with the cap on. After you remove the cap keep the same measurements on the hull.
Take a look at what GT1000000 did to his hull. You want to make sure the cap will fit back on after all the stringers, transom and deck has been replaced.
The work your doing is looking great.

One of the best fabricated Cradles I've seen. I prolly would have padded the wood with carpet. Other than that, it's very very nice.

Thank you, wog, you have no idea how much you have helped me already :) And I thought about the carpet as well... just about the time I was lowering the boat onto it! Ah well, someday Ill get to fixing all the dings and scratches that it has anyway.

Re: My project, 74 Ebbtide

Congrats on the awesome cradle. Looks like it fit like a glove.
Have a great productive weekend and wear all the right PPG and lots of Babby Powder to help with the itch.
That is a really nice looking hull.

Re: My project, 74 Ebbtide

Will do, being in the Army Band this is one of our busy weekends, but is suppose to be pushing 70 here tomrrw so will get at it in the afternoon.

Thanks for baby powder reminder, had forgotten about that one.. got the respirator, suit, gloves and ballistic goggles... I learned the importance of the respirator (and not one of those paper things, which is what I had at first) the second I started cutting the floor out.. If you havent started your project yet, this is VERY important!
