Propane torch just doesn't quite have the heat needed. You can't heat them to soften the rubber, that's not even what we try to do. It's an all out burn that sucker into submission...............Pure carbon.............Acetyleene is what I use.

Not everyone has that type of torch, but the next best is mapp gas, the yellow bottle. It might pay you to get a bottle of mapp gas for stubborn bolts.
Just be careful how and where you use open flames.

Well I have wanted to get a cutting torch anyway, seems like it could be time to get one. Love it when I can justify getting a new toy:D. I was wondering if the propane was hot enough or not and now I know. I just may have to get some MAP gas to see if that will work for the next thing that I need heat for.

Practice on some junk aluminum parts with acetylene. Notice how it will make aluminum vanish before your eyes.
Never hit the air if you're using a cutting head.

What we all attempt to do is crystalize the aluminum oxide build up with heat. Turning it to a fine powder with no bonding strength.

There's a lot of good penetrating oils out there, but nothing that I've ever seen that will efficiantly work on aluminum oxide.

You guys that work on fresh water engines have no idea how much fun it can be to tackle salt water projects;)

Yea I would not just go out and do something without trying it out on something that was scarp first.

But I do know what it is like to work on a salt water project. That is half the problem with mine, it was used in the ocean a great deal according to the PO. So yes I do know and believe that is half my problem with a lot of the stuff on this boat.

That wasn't directed at you, Kelly. I can see from that prop, your boat made regular trips to salt water.

I had a friend in tech school from Ill, that laughed at my saltwater problems. I just told him, I make more money than he does, it takes longer to get my stuff done.:D
