My boats serial number pulls up a fuel injected mercury racing motor. However, my engine cowl are the clam shell type and I have three 2 barrel carbs on my Mercury 200 hp... I need to get a book or diagram on this motor or powerhead so I can look at some things like the small black tubes coming from the starboard and port side behind the carbs..... Also, I want to see the wiring and other things as well. I need the right book or diagram to refer to........I think the number on my carb was 332-7778. Please help me....... Shane

Please remove your phone number, no personal info. You can be PM'ed.

What is your serial number?

0D030331 it brings up another motor. I think maybe my motor has been pieced together? They must have put an older powerhead on it for some reason. why no phone numbers?

There is a "build" date stamped on tha "block" half. It will be at tha base of number 2 cylinder kinda behind tha advance timin' arm. It will be 1/8 inch numbers in month/date/year. ya might look at tha welsh plug (looks like a freeze plug) on top of tha block for a serial number also. Some have 'em some don't..............Pictures would help. A true '91 2.5 200 is kinda of a rare one nowdays...........

Here's a good website for your manual. It's been slow lately on any of my computers, so be patient.
Boatinfo - Mercury Service Manual for 105 and 140 JET - 135-150-175-200-225hp

or try to get where you need from the home page

Need pictures. Can't put a clamshell on a 2.5 style block unless someone has spent some time fabin' up some type of special brackets.......Could tha 9 possibly be a 7?

May be a little of a hodge-podge. Guessin' '89/'90. Smooth heads but could have been changed. 16 amp didn't come on tha 200 those years. Clam shell didn't come on those years. Think '89/'90 still had some of tha brackets for tha clam shell. Clamp and trim looks ta be HP or pre '84. Probably tha later. Can't tell for sure. Shot in tha dark but can ya see a date on tha starter? Did ya find tha welsh plug? Blank? Might have serial number or 200 stamped in it. If you can find a manual covering '87/'88 you should be good. Very few changes with those years. Think '89 went to tha 40 amp water cooled stuff. Most 200's those years had WH 46 carbs. Hope this helps ya a little........

One other possibility. Could be a replacement block bought way later. Just don't think they built a second generation 2.4 block that much later after it was discontinued. They usually have a weird number stamped on tha block half mating flange close ta where tha build date is.......

The serial number on the port side of the engine bracket comes up to be a newer engine. you are probably correct. The guy told me he had an icebag cover his water inlet and burnt up his motor. He said he new a guy who worked on mercury's and they put a new power head on it and rebuilt it. He then put a Bob's racing foot with low water pick up. The motor sounds like it has been beefed up because everyone keeps asking me what I have done to my exhaust to make it sound like a hot rod. I haven't done anything as it was like that when I got it. He said after the rebuild he had maybe 100 hours on it when I bought it. It ran perfectly until a discovered a mouse nest in the back of clamshell cover and she hasn't ran right since. I just wish I knew which pieces were what year so I could begin to get parts when I need them. The plug on top just says 200 on it.....

That explains a lot along with tha clamp and exhaust. Was probably a Bridgeport ta start with. Most of tha "hot rod" stuff gone now. Powerhead been replaced. Get a manual for '87/'88 2.4 200 and you will be fine as far as tha powerhead goes............

Looks to be a 86/87 model due to colors of cowl and single ram trim, but powerhead is later as has 1 piece heads and square fuel pump. Post casting number off heads and that can tell close to year/hp. As for the exhaust it sounds like can and midsection has been drilled which can hurt hole shot on a heavy boat.

0D030331? If this number is on tha clamp it makes it a High Performance clamp (probably changed tha one piece adapter when tha PH was changed) and trim. Tha single ram production went away in '84. This, along with tha "noise" like FB says (no can, drilled down housing) and gear case is why it makes me think of it being a Bridgeport (bass mid) motor originally. Tha "200" stamped on tha plug means just that!...........Tha second generation 200 was pretty much generaic for several years. Few minor changes like fuel pump early on. Some carb changes but they are identified with a WH number on tha carb itself.

should I be getting rid of this motor then? I only use it to fish tournaments and stuff. I just don't want to lug it around if it needs to be screaming down the lake........

As long as its in good shape there shouldn't be any trouble doin' what ya say. Its looks ta be a "stock" 200 power head. They have been on "fishin'" boats for many years. All Merc/Mariner non-optipop V6 motors need ta be stepped on ever once in a while. I'd run it till it popped or just plain 'ole wore out!!!!!
