Things have got tough for me in the past 7 months. That is mostly why I haven't posted much since last August. The one major good thing is that I can say is "I have been clean and sober since August!" I'm to the point now that I don't miss the stuff at all.

The hardest decision for this years boating season is not docking my boat. This will be the first time since 1998 that I won't be spending any time at the dock. My wife is now working every weekend. I don't need to be unaccompanied without her around a bunch of party people. No need to give her any reason for suspicion. Hopefully I will still go to the lake and drop a line once in awhile. Its been hard, but I'm finding a better life......but I know life is still much better on a boat!

Re: My Struggles

It sounds like a successful 7 months. Stopping is always difficult. The desire will always be there. Just remember that if you go back, things will certainly get worse. Keep that good woman happy. Keep you happy. Go buy a used canoe for those times when you can spend a little time together on the water. You can't get more smiles per dollar than with a canoe.

SS, I had noticed you weren't posting a lot. Glad to hear that you are having success making a wanted/needed change. As far as the boating, well, you're making a good decision. Hopefully you'll find another group that isn't the party only type to hang out with?
Best of luck to ya!

Keep Christ in your life Brother! He won't let you down like a bottle will. Sounds like you are on the positive track. Just keep thinking about all the reasons you have for staying off the sauce and you won't have time to miss it :p. God Bless. Dave

Re: My Struggles

That is fantastic.

I use to be one of those guys that had to have a box of beer to go do any thing. Me and my friends would go fishing ,4x4ing,snow snowmobiling, etc. In the proses we would get just hammered.
After having kids and still wanted to go do things I started not buying the booze because I felt it was just wrong to be drunk in front of them and a bad example. What I found was I enjoyed the day more. What was a blur now became a life time memory.
In time you will see what I mean and make your boat a dry boat.

Re: My Struggles

You'll get to the point when you reach for something in the car at 1:30 in the morning, wandering across the unused center line a bit. From out of nowhere comes a highway bear to stop you. When he asks "when was your last drink?" you can say something like "20 years ago" and laugh.

Been there. All the punk could do was give me a ticket for a dirty license plate.

Re: My Struggles

SS good for you. I was never one to be a big drinker but do indulgr noe and agian but I ddid have aserious problem I didn't see and that was to drugs as you will find in time everthing is better food, intrests, family personal relationships and your work ethic. I found that the only way to successully quit is because I wanted to not because someone gave me an altimatum all in all you will see that the people you thought were your friends will be less and less available and will eventually dissapear from your life unfortunate but true I hope you are successful and remember the brotherhood of I boats is behind you all the way!!!!!!!

Re: My Struggles

yo just a thought, I had to re edit this after thinking and before posting......it really doesnt matter what your "monkey" was, you DECIDED to make a positive change....I did this with any hard liquor, probably 20 yrs ago - I'll have a margarita or vodka collins maybe during the summer when its hot, at a restaraunt, sure I'll drink beer, but honestly, not enough to get me blitzed, I get full and just dont wanna, I like my wine, but at times when I know it isnt the best thing for myself or son and early a.m.s switch to - ok lately cran white peach juice w/ Ginger ale....
hmmmm.... and know a bit about gettin juiced up in hospitals, is why I beleive I smoke today, god I did kick that.....
But you know YOU, and quite frankly, YOU should be proud of YOU!!!! Happy Easter!
