I have a 1976 Evinrude 135hp OMC. I had it out on the lake and when I went to open it up I could only give it about 1/2 Throttle and then the throttle arm would slip on me allowing only for me to go half speed. Even thought the arm was all the way open. Any Ideas?!

Re: My Throttle Slips!

The cable is held in place at each end by casing guides with opposing set screws. If the set screws loosen, the cable will slip.

Have someone move the control arm while you watch at the engine to see if the throttle lever is moving properly.

If it is not at that end, you would have to open the control to service the control end. If you tighten the set screws be very careful, too much pressure will cut the cable and you would then have to replace the whole cable. You may have to turn the propeller to move the arm, so keep the key in your pocket.

You can see the various parts at the diagrams for your engine: http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=e

Some times the timerbase will stick and not allow the motor to spool up.
If that is the case the flywheel need to come off and clean and lube the timer base.
