On Nov 19th I went to the dentist as I had several lower teeth giving me some pain. In 2008 I got my upper dentures done. That trip was uneventful as no problems of the work was done.

This time was a bit different. That day, after looking at the xrays the doc scheduled me to come back in to have the last 10 teeth pulled. He prescribed me some antibiotics to clear up the infection that was causing the pain. On Dec 5th I went in for my impressions. Then on Dec 12th, I was then measured and checked for alignment. The finally on the 19th of Dec was the day I got them pulled.

Doc came in, gave me the shots to numb things up. After 15 minuets, I noticed that the left side of my face felt like a chipmunk with his mouth full of nuts. Now the right side was a bit different. I could feel my finger touching my lip on the right side, but not the left. I told the Doc, so he gave me a few more shots. Right then and there, I knew something was not going to be good.

He started pulling them on the left side working his way around to the right side. After getting 7 out, I was ok. Then he grabbed a hold of the next one. OMG! Geez Oh Pete! I thought he was pulling my toe nails up though my body via my gums. He stops, shoots me up some more. Now I'm thinking my gums must look like a sieve.

Now he says I have lots of infection and the novicaine won't do anything.......OH REALLY?! Now what? You can't leave me this way? So I told him we got to get them out. I grabbed a hold of the chair, wrapped my legs underneath, and told him to go for it. Of course, he was a small Doc and seemed like he didn't have the strength to get the dang thing out. After he pulled for about 6 minutes on it, he got it out. I was trembling and tears rolling out of my eyes. WOW, I never ever felt pain like that. What really stinks is he has 2 more to go. He worked for the next 20 minuets getting the last 2 out.

Upon leaving the room, I noticed all the doors were closed. Then when I was going through the waiting room that was full....The eyes were upon me. One old gentleman said "Son, It sure sounds like the tortured you." I shook my head yes and walked out. Then for the last several weeks, I've had to go back for a couple of bone spurs. I still have a few more that has come up that won't come out. I really hate to go back to a place that I feel has beaten the crap out of me. I've lost about 8 pounds, which is ok by me.

So if you get into the same situation, don't let them do anything if you can't be numbed up.........Unless your into lots of pain :D

For something like that, hook me up and send me nighty night. Wake me up when it's over! I hate dentists. Did I mention, I hate dentisits. I would rather see a doctor monthly than see a dentist every 6 months....... No problem with doctors, just hate dentists! Actually, I probably should say, I hate to go see the dentist. The dentist himself is a good guy. Big on deer hunting. He has a bunch of huge mounts in his waiting room........ For whatever reason, the older I get, the worse it is to go in for a visit...

I Know your pain...

Novocain doesn't numb me, only dulls the pain, and while it would be nice to be knocked out, some procedures don't allow it.

I had a total of 12 permanent teeth never form, so for starters, I had no teeth to push out a few of my baby teeth. In my teens I had 3 baby teeth pulled. 3 teeth, 3 hours. Each one shattered, so they had to pick out pieces.

Now I have some serious bridgework on my uppers, and my lower jaw looks like a horses (teeth up front, then gap before molars). I never got the lower bridgework done because of the pain I went thru on the uppers.

To attach fake teeth over my existing ones, they had to dremel down my teeth to use them as anchors for the bridgework. That did an excellent job of exposing the nerves, which did an excellent job of testing my pain threshold. Did I mention novocain doesn't numb me?
Its a grind and test fit sort of procedure, so I had to be awake for it to bite on contact paper with my normal bite so it would be comfortable for me later.

Best part is, the bridgework only lasts so long before it needs to be replaced. I might get a couple more years out of it, then they get to crack the fake ones off, grind on the stubs underneath, and start all over... oh boy.

Re: My Trip to the Dentist

There wasn't any knock out gas or anything to put me out on site.

Finally got the dentures lined and I'm learning to eat things again. Of the many times I have had teeth pulled, I have never encountered so many bone spurs. The Doc has already taken care of 2. It still seems more keeps coming out. So far I have 4 more that is bothering me. I'm so dentist shy now, I'll just deal with the spurs until I have to go back in for a re-alignment.

The Doc's dental assistant is pretty hot and she goes to the local lake. She said she would stop by for a cold drink and a visit. I didn't really invite her, but I sure wasn't going to tell her not to. Mrs SS was there, sooooo I guess its okay with her? Uh huh,,,it will be okay until she shows up in a bikini,,,

I went through exactly that with one of my lower left molars. He had his nurse hold my head while he finished pulling. I have a very high tolerance for pain and that definitely tried my tolerance.

if you want to have a fun experience let them use the "bone file" on your jaw. I made the mistake of wanting to see it when I went back for a recheck. I wouldn't use that on a piece of metal for fear it would destry the metal. can't believe he used it on my jaw.

Egads! Reading all these informative posts about dentistry while the patient is conscious not only puts me in a cold sweat but also makes me so glad I was knocked out when they did my wisdom teeth. The 2 uppers were pulled, the 2 lowers were impacted and needed to be chiseled out...

The pain after certainly sucked, but I'm glad I avoided the pain and mental scarring that would have happened during the procedure. ;)
