Re: My Vaseline Opinion.

Vaseline does remove oxidation, don't believe all the "websperts" who want you to waste your money and time ;)
And gee, farmers use it to prevent rust on outdoor equipment, we know what rust is right?

I used to run a bodyshop and it certainly DOES remove oxidation, I saw it with my own two eyes.

Besides, it only costs $2 and doesn't hurt anything. I suspect some around here are just shills for 3M and the like LOL.

Talk to Mikdee here.

Re: My Vaseline Opinion.

I have listened to every angle and decided to strip a section of my boat of poliglow and give it a try. marine4003 if you apply wax over the vaseline wouldn't that solve the issue of UV? My boat is a good candidate and i have wet sanded polished and tried everything and nothing seems to work that well. the poliglow is the best result that i have been able to achieve so far though. It is on the boat now ill leave it overnight then post results.

I polished over top of my Vaseline treatment, but I'm sure my boat will dissolve into a million pieces according to some know it alls around here.
I won't start calling them names because obviously even with me ignoring their immature responses and name calling, they still get their panties full of sand!

Seriously, I used a quality polish(West Marine brand, made by Starbrite with PTFE), and it was ape simple to use. Wipe on, let dry, then rub off.
The vas treatment probably took more work ;)

I for one am grateful to Mikdee for turning me onto this cheap trick, which is what this, and many sites are all about. I mean, check out the hot rod world, or the off roading world and you will find volumes of cheap tricks that actually work. ;)

Good luck with whatever you use, I hope you boat ends up looking great!

Re: My Vaseline Opinion.

Here's a pic of mine, at least 8 weeks post vaseline application. The gel looks so good, it made my decals look shabby so I ordered new ones :D Hope they get here soon, these are 31 years old, as is my gel coat.

Re: My Vaseline Opinion.

Vaseline app was recommended to us from a Thread I did about bad oxidation on our boat. Ours is a 1992 Celebrity 200 Cuddy Cabin. We were both totally AMAZED at the results/shine after doing a couple of "tests spots" on the maroon color strip on the side of our boat. Oxidation was gone, permanent or not, and that was what we wanted. We done almost the entire boat yesterday, wiped it off today and it is definitely shining (better than when we bought it)! We are in our early 60's and don't have all the "arm/shoulder power" we did years ago.
However, we will say this: If this boat was a much newer boat, we wouldn't do this kind of application.........probably wouldn't need to! But, for now we are 100% HAPPY!! :)
