i installed two 2 inch hitch receivers on both side of my motor to be used for various crazy out of the box thinking.
Here is one. I was looking on ebay and found a new 25' pontoon ready to float with carpet on the deck, nothing else, $3400.
What if, i install two receivers on the front of that boat and pin connected the two together with 2" x 3/8" aluminum sq tube . Build one or two bedrooms on it and the whole family could spend week ends on the lake. Why have a water front lot. Anytime, you want to disconnect just unpin them. It would actually lift the rear of the boat with the motor. happy holidays

I won't get into crazy or not, but if you do it I think you should set it up with ball hitches. It would create very heavy forces on a double pinned straight bar connection betweeen 2 pontoon hulls. With the ball hitches it would remove most of the strain of going over waves and wakes. We gotta see pix if you do it. Would both toons be powered?

+1 for waterlogged.... Two trailers??? Two trips to the lake??? IMHO, I would sell what you have and buy a Party Hut or Party Cruiser. Lots better solution to meet your objective.

Water logged is on it, you need some kind of a joint that pivots and a ball and reviever woudl relieve alot of the stress, you are still going to have to build the crap out of it to make it strong enough.

I would go with steel tubing and bolt it to several brackets to spread the load, I don't think aluminum tube would stand up to the stresses, sounds like an interesting idea though.

your wife is right--if you want to tow a barge do it like the professionals do-with a cable or rope .

By rigidly tieing the two together to the crossmember, they become one unit. The hitch receivers are steel and welded or bolted to 2 cross members. Steel sq tube would be stronger but your only as strong as the cross members. My boat would be fine but a normal pontoon may not. The 2" aluminum would serve as a shear pin. Side note, I was talking to a guy who is selling the boat and he told me a guy down there had a pontoon platform with nothing but a stripper pole in the middle and he takes it out on holidays. The guy said, awesome party.:D

EZ Glide, Back in the 80s, I had that probelm of 2 trailers So, I built me a hydraulic trailer. I had the Skamper pop up with no wheels on the top frame and my custom built boat trailer with 4 hyd rams on each corner ,tied to the top frame, was the main bottom frame. Off to the lake we would go with my car pulling the combo. Get to the lake and press a botton and my 16' bass boat with 70hp would slide into the water. Lower the Skamper down on the main frame and pop it up ready for the week end. Press a button, the top frame would rise making space for the boat for the trip back. Yes, I have fun being crazy.

Re: My wife thinks ii am crazy, but

Sort of a late post and this goes back a lot of years, but my grandfather made a house boat, no motor, that was 30 x 30 feet on steel oil drums for floats. It was kept on a private dock and if they wanted to move it off for the week end it was towed out. Of course you cant do any thing like that now days. Smiles but thats what I grew upon. But I have often though of bulding one on the plastic floats like are used at docks.
