Sorry for the long read but I am about to burst.

This last week I took a vacation to Parawan Utah up in the hills with my 5th wheel travel trailer. I pulled up friday noontime and set up camp and it started pouring, no big deal just didn't have a fire. Saturday rolls around and I go on a quad ride and see more wildlife than I have ever seen before, great. I get back to camp and my trailer batteries were dead so I jumpstarted my generator with my pick up no big deal. We had brought our neighbors with us who have been camping with us several times before and for some reason my neighbors wife forgot everything about trailer etiquette and was washing a rag in the sink for about 5 minutes of straight running water(Probably 4-5 gallons) Now I really don't care but my other half let her know again that it is a trailer and we only have a 30 gallon holding tank that needs to last 5 days, that didn't go over well and now I have 2 bickering women making this trip horrible. OK so Saturday night I turn off the generator thinking my batteries are good, Nope completely dead. so now I am getting more grief about things not working(Water pump for toilet). Sunday rolls around and it is a beatuful day, We take a trip up the mountain Near Brian Head and it is great. we get back in the afternoon and we clean up for dinner and what do you know, we run out of water(100 Gallons) Yay I don't know how and have never even come close to running out before and on much longer trips. So I make the best of it and run to town and get about 20 gallons more of water. I then proceed to drink myself to sleep. We wake up Monday with no power and no water so we decide we will head down to Vegas and stay there for the night and come home in the morning instead of camping till Tuesday and traveling all in one day. Vegas was nice I haven't been there in years we walked the strip and had a good time. We wake up Tuesday and hit the road, we got to state line and I pull over to use the restroom and hear a clicking noise, my battery compartment door had opened on the road and hit the button to lower the landing gear and they stopped about an inch from the ground but the motor kept turning and tore itself apart so now I cannot control them at all yipee. Well we get back on the raod and about 20 miles out of Barstow I blow a tire on the trailer GREAT it takes out part of the trailer with it. I put on my spare and we are on the road again and make it home fine. I called my insurance company to file a claim and while I was on the phone with them I was bringing in my slide out and forgot to close a cupboard door and it ripped it apart(Not just off the hinges but in pieces). I then decided to just go in the house and figure things out this morning.

OK today rolls around and I hop in my truck to go to work (With trailer attached since I can't get it off due to broken gear), I get about 30 feet and POW my 5th wheel came unhitched and fell on the bed of my truck, I guess someone thinks it's funny to pull a pin and wait for me to drive away.

Here are a couple pics.

I am waiting for the claims guys to call me but am afraid to even tow it to the shop. Maybe it will catch on fire next.

Re: My wonderful vacation

I have a firewood trailer with the same dings and bends in the top of the box. My father inlaw was hooking up his 5th wheel camper and knocked it off the front blocks. About a 4-6" set of blocks and then it landed on the bed. The top just dips a little. So I have a firewood trailer(pickup box trailer) with a spray in bedliner and a reciever hitch witch I had from a old truck. Yes I know I'am a redneck.:D

It's pretty bad that I am at work now and feel more relaxed than I have all weekend. I can't wait to get home and have a beer.

Re: My wonderful vacation

That is the very reason I don't take vacations instead a lot of 3 or 4 day weekends.:D

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

This is why we get insurance even if we think we don't need it.

I dropped the trailer off at the shop today and they said it has at least 6 grand in damage, I will take the truck in tomorrow which is looking like a new bed(or bed side), tailgate and paint.

wow that sucks. who pulled the hitch pin? I drive trucks sometimes, and my friend has for years as well. he has told me of a few stories at truck stops where punks do that when the driver goes inside then sit and watch the truck drive off and drop the trailer. unbelievable. well, at least it will be fixed and everyone made it home safe.

I don't know who or if anyone, It may have just lost the safety pin because the safety latch was bent out about an inch which would make sense if the pin was missing. The only reason I thought it might be someone is that I had just towed it to Utah and back (About 1000 miles) with no issues there. I just found out that my Ins company is hitting me with three deductables and three claims because it didn't happen at the same time, hopefully they don't drop me this is the first time using them in the 7 years I have had them.

Re: My wonderful vacation

Took the truck in yesterday and it came to a total od $6,807.00 in damages, so in one bad day a total of $13,227.00 in damages between the truck and trailer. Thanks god for insurance, it is only gonna cost me $550.00 and whatever they are gonna raise my rates to.

Moral of the story, Always check your trailer every time you take off. This has been a major headache I don't need right now.
