I was waiting for the picture comment :D Cars? those go in the driveway!Besides, you ever try to fit a car in a 14x20 garage with a 50 inch powermatic table saw, a drill press ,bandsaw, wood lathe, planer, jointer, router table, workbench and wood?

You could probably make a template of almost anything in a shop like that! :D

Here are some more pics. I found out that the keelson has to be notched. That blows. The drawings didnt show it per say.you have to look at several pics on the plans to see it.Two options:cut notches or cut down the keelson so that it doesnt stick so far down off the bottom.Dont know what Ill do yet,Ill keep you "posted". :D And now the pics:

I wouldnt call that masonite a "template", its more of a prototype. :D

CPJ you could probably get away with thinning down the keelson quite a bit. You don't plan on whale hunting with that boat do you? Lose weight wherever you can :D

ck i am in the process of redesigning the whole thing anyway.Im going to make the frames out of 1/4 ply, eliminate the gunwale and chine strips all together, and do something else with the keel .I dont want this to weigh 500 pounds.

CK I think if you look close, the keelson is on the top... thats just the jig on the bottom. oh and the keelson in that picture is made from 1/4" template board :D

template board.. :D I know it's upside down, CPJ is building it the same way he will be piloting it most of the time. I don't think the keelson needs to be 5 inches tall though unless he needs to punch through battleship hulls with it.

CPJ, sounds like you're gonna turn it into a dug :D No chine strips and gunwales? Seriously?

Re: My YAK by CPJ (aka YAK LIGHT)

Heres the new plan (so far)Build a boat of my own design and poop can the Plyak. The plyak was to friggin heavy for what I want.It would end up weighing around 70 pounds or so . With that much weight I might as well just use my canoe. So anyway, the new plan is to build a light kayak type boat.It will be 8 feet long and around 30 inches across.Dont have a side height yet, its a work in progress. :D Here are some pics to keep the TBAB stooges happy. :p They are of my test pieces so nothing is final yet. I will probablly add a little more "V" to the hull, but as I said its a work in progress. And I made it half size just for one person here! :p
Would you say you're about 50% done then? I liked the plyak CPJ. It could be used as an arctic icebreaker when you go walrus hunting. Are there any particular kayak designs you are trying to build your new one like?

Well ck, as we spoke before in the stolen room, I was kinda thinking a sit on top type of yak.Now Im not sure. This is how I work best, make up stuff as you go along. :D What do you think about a square stern yak that is the size that I am building?

That's right. I remember. It would be cool if you can pull off what you want to do propulsion wise. Shouldn't be difficult to square off the stern.

Hey if you look real close in one of the last pics... CPJ either has a real boat..... or it's his neighbors.. who'd a thunk it...

Re: My YAK by CPJ (aka YAK LIGHT)

Not gonna post any pics yet, it still looks the same as the above pic,the only diff. is I stitched it together with a couple of zip ties.Which works pretty well I might add.(not my idea on the zip ties, just saying it works good) Im still trying to make up my mind on the final design, but I figure Ill make the bottom, then just make the top whenever I make up my mind.I have went to Bass Pro a few times with my tape measure in hand, to check out some of their yaks.I think that they are starting to wonder what Im doing when I measure their yaks. :confused:Im still working out the details of the drive system. The one idea would be light weight, but Im afraid it would be to slow and not that reliable.(the weed eater drive)So im trying to make sure that the rear area is big enough to use something else like maybe a b/s 3-5 horse motor.Hey dink, how many of those small props you got left?I might be in the market for one.
Edit even before I post this:I just re read what I wrote, and must say"If you have ever thought about using a weed eater for an outboard you might be a redneck." :D

yes dave I do have a real boat. :p

Re: My YAK by CPJ (aka YAK LIGHT)

i've got 4 of them :) 3 diff sizes I think... i'll chheck when I get home

ya know what though, I got to thinkin about that and for 10 bucks at walmart you can get a trollling motor prop that would be much better suited for that application. there's a single hole in the end that you could use for mounting.... my props will require some sort of rubber hub. Also the plastic props will be much lighter and easier on the weed eater motor.

Re: My YAK by CPJ (aka YAK LIGHT)

you edit more posts than any one Ive ever seen.ya have to keep checkin back to see what dink has edited. :p Anyway, the prop wouldnt be for the weed eater it would be for a b&s motor.I plan on finding a metal trolling motor prop if I use the weed eater motor.
