My yard in L.I., New York was to remove service and store my stern drives in the first week of December 2004. Called and called for service with no luck. They finally removed the drives in April of 2005 and sent them to a mechanic outside of the yard. The mechanic called and related that one of the drives had sustained a water leak and had the salt water sitting in the upper gear assembly all winter and now it was seized. He suggested the part was $5100.00 and he couldn't even find one.

Where can I find an uppper gear case assembly and what would you do with the yard?

Thanks,

DJZ

You might want to give this site a look or give them a call, you'll need year, engine size, etc
OMC Parts

Don't knoiw what you can do about the yard unless you can prove that they were supposed to remove them last year, even Dec sounds a bit late though. Did you have a workorder or just phone calls? Have you approached them yet about this problem.

There was a couple of King's on Ebay. That may be your best bet right now. Wow DJZ... the whole deal really sucks! Hope you get her worked out.

Another case of someone being charged for work that was never done. You need to send them a certified letter letting them know what they have done, the damage done and what you want done about it. If they are a coorperation New York allows you to sue in small claims Courts for damages up to 5000.00

Approach them and give them a chance to replace it. If they refuse then you need ot get the legal system working for you.

I would also go after them for the $$ you paid them to do the removal and storage in the first place. Was there any other "services" that they wer suppose to do that might not have been done and other stuff get damaged?

-JustMrWill

What yard was this? This sounds eerily familiar, if it's the one I think it is, you won't be the first and you may have legal recourse.

Best of Luck

Why were you removing the drives? I winterize mine in place every year without any problems? Did you need repair work done?
