I'm trying to find out if this elbow is suppose to be on my Volvo Penta 5.7. Not internal cooled..

It's on the inside of the port side.

The manifolds and risers were replaced but it took 6 weeks for my local shop to get the correct ones so the boat sat for that time with the risers and manifolds off. Then the old risers / manifolds were stolen out of the back of the truck before I could get all the fittings off.

There is also an existing 1/2" rubber hose that comes from behind the motor somewhere so I assumed it went to the riser since it looked like it ended there. That's when I added this elbow and connected the hose.

After the new risers / manifolds in and connecting that 1/2" hose to the port riser with the new elbow I then connected up the hose, tested for about a half hour, seemed to run good. Next day I take it out in Monterey Bay and its running kinda rough right off the bat. We headed out about 5 miles and stopped for about an hour to fish. Go to start it up and its got hydro lock.

Tear down revealed quite a bit of water in all of the port cylinder heads. Riser / gasket look perfectly fine, dont see any cracks in the riser or manifold.

The big question is; Is this elbow suppose to be there and could that have caused water to enter the head?

Another question would be; Could brand new Volvo Penta Manifolds and Risers leak?

Thanks!

What's the full model number or serial number of your engine. all 5.7's aren't the same.
