Mystery boat

[Gator1955]

I dragged this boat home today and have been scouring the web to figure out what it is and I was wondering if anybody here could figure it out. It is about 13 and 1/2 feet long and 5 and 1/2 feet wide. I searched the hull for Id numbers but couldn't find any.

put a post on the forum at cheapoldboats.com or olered.com group of guys in Oklahoma that are into old boats, should get a response from there

That is a Glasspar G3! It is a desireable boat for restoring and usually in demand. I'll give you 100 for it--Hee Hee!

Seriously, restore it and put a period engine on it --I forget the max but she will do nicely with a 50-70HP--and you will have a beautiful classy Sunday ride.

Thanks for the advice guys and to think I found her on the side of a country road with a free boat free trailer sign on it! One mans junk another mans treasure. There were two other free boats on trailers as well but they were wood and looked like they were far beyond repair. So I took this one it has a few holes looks like someone shot at it and the keel is kinda scratched up but I am sure looking forward to restoring it!

Ditto that. I'd hate to hear yet another sad story on the subject. If it were me, I'd immediately go and get it registered in my name. It'll cost a few bucks, but will also flush out any documentation issues and make it that much easier to get rid of when the time comes.

Ain't that a fact. I just heard tell of a kid locally who bought a boat, was waiting on the title. But he couldn't resist working on it. So the kid worked & waited, worked & waited til one day the rightful owner showed up & wanted his boat back? He got it too! Turns out the seller & the owner weren't the same person?

I realize this is an extreme case but please folks. Do yourselves a favor. Do NOT buy a boat without a title.

That the kind of resto I would like to try. Something basic, simple and small enough to fit in my garage. Would be a fun thing. Maybe I will keep my eye out.

Just doing a quick survey on the boat I discovered that the deck is rotten but the stringers and transom seem solid. Before I completely dig in I figure I should get the title squared away. I am remodeling my house, rebuilding a 71 Camaro and I got an 87 Galaxie Starion that needs repair so I wasn't planning on starting this project before I finished these, but in my head Ive already got big plans I cant help it I hoard junk. The registration sticker on it expired in 1980. Do you think there will be back fees on registration? Never picked up an abandoned boat.

Every state is different and we don't know which one you're in (hint hint, update your profile )

In PA, it would be a very simple procedure. In other states it would be a nightmare. However, I have never heard of a state requiring back reg fees on a boat.

You've deefinitely got too much on your plate to ever finish that Glaspar. I'll give you $200 for it.

Registering it depends entirely on what state you're in, they're all over the board on procedures (it would be really really nice if we could get one set of rules nationwide).
