Hello all,
As you can tell I am new here.
I have an old motor that I was given to use with a boat that I no longer have.
I cannot seem to identify the motor using many of the sites that have already been liked in previous threads, so here goes:

It looks like one of those boxy eska/sears/Montgomery wards motors. It has a slide throttle on the front, an idle knob, and a pull out choke knob, the grip folds and only steers.

I was told that the motor was either 4 or 6 HP.
I was told that this was a Montgomery Wards motor and the plate does state that, the power head is a Tec with what looks like a series 3 carb.

Model number: 60 28025
serial number: 431811

The tag on the powerhead has: 5890808 and below that: T-643-05

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I didnt notice any thing specific with your model number but by the engine tag it appears to be an Eska 5.0 hp built in 1969. They were sold under several names

there is something special about the T 643-05 I just don't remember what???....Ok now I remember its a 16:1 fuel mix and used a J8J plug, other 643 models used 24:1 and the J13Y ....go to www.sparkplugs.com and see what crosses over to the J8J.

Re: Mystery Eska Tec Montgomery ward

Thank you for the info, spent some about two hours working on the motor last night and discovered that the carb bowl was misaligned and hung up on the pin for the float. Also found that I was not getting consistent spark. As I really don't need this motor, I don't know if I will got through the trouble of taking the carb off and realigning everything.
This motor did have a J8c plug in it, but many people have had their hands and wrenches on this motor by the looks of everything.

If there is anyone on the board who loves these old motors I most likely will be looking to get of it. I would rather see someone use it or parts instead of including it in my next scrap run.
Earlier this summer I got rid of an old 1950s single cylinder 2hp Elgin that I redid and found that redoing the motor and carb did little to increase its value.

post some pictures of your motor, parts are hard to find and you might get lucky that someone out there needs a part off your motor.the value in your motor if you don't want to get it running will be in the parts. you could put it on ebay or craigslist if you just want to get rid of it. have fun with your endeavor.

I would be willing to sell this as a complete motor, I have had enough headaches with disassembling motors lately

This motor is not currently in running condition. The motor does have good compression. This motor has an internal fuel tank and an adapter for an external tank. This motor is complete and the prop turns when the pull start is pulled.
The carb bowl was misaligned and will need to be removed and reinstalled before this motor will run and the float needs adjusted before this motor will run.
The previous owner or series of owners, thought it would be cute to paint this motor black with apparently the cheapest paint they could find and it is currently flaking and peeling.
