Mystery Gearcase O ring in kit for Johnson '57 RDE19

Hi folks

I have the Sierra Gearcase Seal kit 18-2686 for my '57 Johnson RDE19 35HP

Lower Unit Gear Housing Seal Kit for Johnson/Evinrude, GLM 87607 - Sierra - iboats

I've found a place for everything in the kit except for one little o-ring. About 1/4" across, it's the smallest one in the kit.

At first I thought it was the O ring that goes with the bushing for the shifter rod, but that one's bigger and fatter. Any ideas where this thing goes?

under the Phillips screw that is the shift yoke pivot ?

Definitely for the Phillips head screw.

Phillips head screw...BUT...some used a small flat gasket and some used an o-ring. So, the kit gives you both. Use the one that is appropriate, never both.
