Can someone tell me if this hole should have a plug in it?? it's on the front of the drive about half way up from the foot the threads look like it has been a long time since any thing has been it it. I have a manual but I can't find any thing about it. And could this be a stringer drive???

Okay - I can see the quadrant up in the left side of the photo: it's an OMC Stringer. Dunno' which one for sure, but it looks electric shift. The hole you're looking at is the the lube hole for the swivel - best illustration for it I can find right now is this:
Exhaust Housing.jpg

There should be a small plastic screw in piece that is illustrated in that image. It might be a little tough to find one, but I would look for an exhaust housing for the drive and it should come with it.

What year boat and HP engine do you have?

'69 Evinrude Explorer? Cool boat! Get some pictures posted!

The '69 155 was a Buick/Jeep V6. You can get some information HERE, and you can find a bunch more HERE.

I found the grease fitting in the hole put my wonderful grease gun on it pumped some in when I tried to pull it off it would not come off so I tugged a little harder oops the fitting pulled out , now I'm not happy, I went to store and got self taping fitting and it worked also tossed the end of the grease gun in the trash and put a new one on it.. now I'm happy I still need to find a plug for the hole.

Did about the same thing two weeks ago. Saved the zerk, and the gun though ... I can't tell why mine got stuck.

I saved the zerk also but the threds were to short so I had to get some with longer ones, The gun has a adjustabile tip that did not adjust it looks like if it gets any dirt in it hen it goes on ok but wont come off again.
