1992 Alpha 1 gen II, I pulled out the gimbal bearing, while wiping things clean of old grease I discovered a hole in the bottom of the bore between the gimbal bearing and the drive shaft wiper seal. About 3/16 in diameter going straight down. What is its purpose, drain, breather or what? BTW not the grease hole, its further back at about 5 o'clock.

Re: Mystery hole

another drain for the bellows. Most of us see the water comin in from the top hole but it also comes in from the bottom one.Plus it depends on where all that grease goes. Sometimes it plugs up the holes.

Re: Mystery hole

Thanks Bt Doc, makes perfect sense, I will be sure to blow both of them out before reassembly.
Old Islander, lets not go there, I kinda had second thoughts about the title but it was late and I was too tired to change things
