mystery part

I have just pulled what I thought was the fuel pump off my Merc 900, however in looking at the SELOC manual I have, there is nothing in the fuel pump section that even looks like my part, or shows the fuel pump to be located where my part was.

My mystery part was attached to the engine tray, bottom right side of the engine, has four fuel lines connected to it (two leading into the block, one leading out of the motor, and one headed up, presumably as fuel supply to the engine.

The part is oval shaped, 4" long by 1.5" wide and 2" deep. The part is separated into two halves, the upper with the number 66535 on it and the lower marked 66529. There is a metal bowl at the fuel inlet area, what I assumed to be a filter bowl marked 35-91077.

My boat is in a storage yard so I can't readily go and investigate what else may be connected to the fuel system.

Thanks

Re: mystery part

Thanks for your reply, that's exactly it.

Unfortunatly, when I got the part off, it looked to be in fairly good shape. I had an issue that my engine would start, with the choke on, but when the choke was released it would die. I was hoping that the fuel pump filter was clogged or some such thing. Did not turn out to be the case. But at the very least I can now order the replacement gasket set.

Re: mystery part

Robert it sounds like your carbs are pretty clogged. You might disassemble them, clean all the passages, and rebuild then with new gaskets and inlet needles. If the carb floats are the foam variety, check them for deterioration. if they are the hard plastic, check them for cracking. Replace as necessary.
